One's profession plays a central role in societal participation. It is within one's workplace, specific professional activities, and associated social contacts that society is shaped. As part of the "Diversity" cluster of wvib Schwarzwald AG (The Association of Industrial Companies in Baden), #Sutter aims to actively promote diversity. In the future, one of our primary focuses will be 'Autism in the Workplace'. Autistic colleagues offer unique perspectives, views, and ways of thinking that are critically needed today and are generally an enrichment for their respective companies. In addition to a wvib Schwarzwald AG cluster meeting on this topic at our headquarters on October 23, 2024, we also want to use this post to commit ourselves as a future network sponsor for the #Freiburg counseling center #ZAKS (Center for Autism Competence South Baden non-profit GmbH) to support the preservation of the ZAKS counseling center in its current form. Those who wish to support a petition to this effect can do so at the following Open Petition link: 👉 https://lnkd.in/etw-PMgH Why are we doing this? Because successful participation in working life encompasses much more than just work and earnings: it provides structure, fosters self-efficacy, facilitates social interaction, enhances productivity, and shapes identity. To ensure this participation, the necessary solutions and support measures must be as individualized as the autism spectrum itself. #Autismus #Autism #AutismAcceptance #AutismAtWork #Petition #Support #Inclusion #Diversity 🔔 Don't want to miss any of our posts? 65% of neurodivergent employees are concerned about disclosing due to fear of discrimination from their manager. And at the same time, the largest barrier to accessing adjustment at work is a lack of disclosure. When I was a kid of 6 or 7 y.o., a girl was playing with us in a yard, she had Down syndrome. I’m thinking about that time with great regret – sometimes children are cruel, and we were laughing at that girl. At that moment, no one told me anything about it, anything about the fact that our world is diverse, and every child should be accepted. I still can’t forget that girl and how inappropriate the children behaved. Times are changing. And now, we have more information, resources, responsibility, and impact. Today, we had a lovely event with Neurodiversity in Business (NiB) - the Neurodiversity Charity to foster a deeper understanding of neurodiversity. What I appreciate and what is super important is that #KC never stops on its way to creating an environment where every individual feels valued and included. #WeAreKC #Neurodiversity #ilovemyjob #KimberlyClark #DEI

Helping people in prison overcome obstacles on release. #AlexThinkingOutLoud is my LinkedIn Hashtag.
Empowerment, not dependency, should be the goal of support work, but we all need someone we can depend on in times of need or crisis. Imagine a scale with dependency on one side and empowered on the other. How would your approach to work or the service you work within balance out? An important clarification here: by #empowered I don't mean totally independent, as some people may need to rely on others in response to a disability. What I mean by empowered is being able to fulfil actions within and outside one's comfort zone. To be honest, a scale isn't the best analogy because, in truth, you need both, and people often start being totally dependent on a support resource or professional, then work towards being empowered, just like in physiotherapy. That said, I think it is healthy for services, charities, and government agencies to think about their outputs through this lens. What activities can you point to in what you deliver that move people from being dependent to empowered? What is your argument and rationale for adopting an approach that keeps people (or other institutions) dependent on what you provide. Is that stance justified? I'll end with this: the job of a charity in its purest form is to work itself out of needing to exist in the first place because the problem would have been solved and integrated into the fabric of society. It's worth thinking about how we can work in the spirit of this as teams or individual actors. What do you think? #AlexThinkingOutLoud #HMPPS #prison #MOJ #rehabilitation #probation #criminaljustice #jail #criminology #youthwork #socialwork

Today, April 2nd, marks World Autism Awareness Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and promoting acceptance and inclusion of individuals with autism in society. Over the years, The Pollination Project has played a vital role in funding initiatives focused on creating inclusive environments for individuals with autism, children, teenagers, and young adults. One prevalent issue within the autism community is the lack of opportunities for social interaction in relaxed and enjoyable settings. Many autistic individuals find themselves isolated, with limited chances to engage with peers and the wider community. Fortunately, projects supported by The Pollination Project have been working tirelessly to change this narrative. By providing funding and support, these initiatives have been able to create safe spaces where autistic individuals can interact with their peers in fun and relaxed environments. These projects not only promote social inclusion but also help to enhance the overall well-being and quality of life for those with autism. However, there is still much work to be done. Despite the efforts of organizations like us, many autistic individuals continue to face barriers to social inclusion. It's essential that we continue to support initiatives that strive to create a more inclusive society for individuals with autism. We exist for that, one seed grant at a time. #autismawareness #worldautismday #philanthropy #grantmaking #grants #changemakers #activism #nonprofit #volunteer

There's an awful lot of talk about recruitment/HR and creating recruitment drives, policies and guidelines concerning the employment of autistic people. And it's great, don't get me wrong. But I think there is more we need to be doing. All the policies, guidelines and recruitment drives in the world won't change human nature. Unless you place all autistic people in one place/department/organisation they will have to mix with other people. And people can be cruel. No one has time to recognise gaslighting, put downs, cruel jibes and scapegoating unless you have someone monitoring each department 24hours a day. And even other autistic people can be cruel. Many, diagnosed in late adulthood may be traumatised from childhood experience. Many are just unpleasant people simply because they are, and there is good in bad in all of us - and that includes the neurodivergent population as well as neurotypical. I still live in fear of ostracisation, bullying and scapegoating and I'm a grown adult. For autistic people to thrive in mixed environments - whether that's at college, university or at an organisation, there needs to be a change of hearts, minds and attitudes towards those who are different. This is a big ask, after all human nature favours herd instinct with strong personalities and homogeneous groups who follow each other. Attitudes towards hidden disabilities, and all those who appear different to us needs to change from the ground up, from before children start school, from the nursery upwards. People can't change overnight, and it isn't just autistic people who suffer, there are those with physical disabilities, those who are ethnically diverse, LGBQT , all suffer at the hands of people who cannot stomach anything that doesn't reflect what they see in the mirror each day. Consider making changes from birth and we might just make some progress. After all, what do they say about how it takes a village to raise a child? I don't have much faith in capitalism right now, but a new government is one step in the right direction perhaps. #nonprofit #tech #storytelling

Hello everyone, I hope this message finds you all well. I am sharing some personal updates and aspirations for The Invisible Me Warriors (IMW), a non-profit organization I founded to support individuals with invisible disabilities. After the loss of my dear mother, who was the heart and soul of IMW, I took a step back to grieve and reflect. This led to a period of dormancy for our efforts, and we are currently down to just me. Today, I am determined to rebuild IMW from scratch. My goal is to continue my mother's legacy without pause and to expand our reach and impact in the advocacy community. I am actively seeking mentorship, collaboration, and guidance from leaders and advocates in the field. Whether it's through joint advocacy campaigns, speaking engagements, or mentorship, I believe that together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those living with invisible disabilities. I invite you all to join me on this journey of rebuilding and growth. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any advice, connections, or opportunities you think could help IMW. Your support is crucial as we strive to bring visibility to the invisible and honor my mother's legacy. Thank you for your ongoing support and for being part of this important journey. #InvisibleMeWarriors #DisabilityAdvocacy #InvisibleDisabilities #StrengthAndResilience #MentalHealthAwareness #ChronicIllnessSupport #HopeAndHealing #CommunitySupport #DisabilityRights #EmpowermentThroughArt
