Human Rights Due Diligence Manager @ Danone | MBA in Strategy | Responsible Supply Chains | ESG | UN SDGs | India, EMEA
🌟 2024 Social Benchmark Highlights: Danone and Industry Peers 🌟 🌐 The 2024 Social Benchmark by the World Benchmarking Alliance sheds light on how companies worldwide are addressing human rights, decent work, and ethical business conduct. Here’s what you need to know: ➤ What’s Included? The benchmark evaluates 2,000 influential companies (the SDG2000) based on publicly available information and external-facing communication documents. ➤ It’s a snapshot of where companies stand in terms of their commitment to societal expectations. ➤ Danone’s Score: Danone secured an impressive 14/20 score, demonstrating its dedication to human rights and ethical practices. Great to observe that industry peers are also scoring well on the bennchmark. ⚠️Considerations to keep in mind: ➤Transparency and Communication:While the ranking evaluates publicly available information and external-facing communication documents, it’s essential to recognize that companies may be implementing additional Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) practices without explicitly communicating them. Companies might prioritize HRDD behind the scenes, but if they haven’t yet shared these efforts publicly, their score may not fully reflect their commitment. ➤ Ongoing Improvement and Reporting: As companies continue to adopt and enhance their practices, the scoring is likely to improve over time. Reporting externally on HRDD progress will play a crucial role in showcasing companies’ dedication to human rights and driving positive change. ➤Remember that this benchmark is a snapshot, and companies have the opportunity to evolve and demonstrate their commitment to ethical business practices. 🌟 👣The Journey Ahead: There seems to be a wide disparity between industries and sectors, moving forward greater progress will be needed accross other sectors. Full implementation of #HumanRightsDueDiligence (#HRDD) remains a collective goal. 🌱 Let’s celebrate progress while acknowledging the road ahead! 🙌 🔗 Link: https://lnkd.in/guaMWD5i #SocialBenchmark #BusinessAndHumanRights #Sustainability #ESG #HumanRights

ESG is not enough, important to read the UN Working Groups document on this topic, see the link below
I had the honour to present the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights' report on Investors, ESG and Human Rights (https://lnkd.in/eEqAbxP2) to the UN Human Rights Council last week. This report highlights the roles of investors using ESG and sustainability approaches in relation to their responsibilities under the UNGPs, and shows how ESG and sustainability approaches could be adjusted to align with the UNGPs. A series of recommendations for States, businesses, investors and others is set out: (https://lnkd.in/esgU4m4U).

#ESG approaches and metrics proliferate -- but is that the problem? State duties yes, but investors are key human rights 'regulators' (influence and leverage over business impact on the 'S' in ESG, and the E/G...). Clarifying expectations on investors, and offering practical insights, an important task of the recent report. Key finding? For me = how 'ESG' lacks specificity or grounding in a single clear normative framework: an assessment and reporting soup with accompanying risk. Key recommendation? For me = clearer articulation of 'ESG' considerations and criteria. Bravo Robert McCorquodale & the Working Gp. on the report: https://lnkd.in/esgU4m4U

90% of the world’s 2,000 most influential companies are failing to ensure human rights, decent work and ethical conduct. Regulation, guidance, and external pressure are necessary to steer businesses in the right direction. Read more about the findings from The World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) https://lnkd.in/daudFGC4

Understanding how social, economic, and environmental aspects are interrelated is crucial for developing policies and conducting analysis for sustainable achievement. Identification of potential trade-offs and synergies between various policy options is made easier by this multidimensional approach. Incorporating inclusion and equality principles also guarantees that all societal groups benefit from any legislation. We may work toward a sustainable and prosperous future by continuously learning, adjusting, and improving policy. It begins with you and I. Adeyemi Adebisi

📈 Measures to upscale the social economy, including social enterprises’ pioneering work in the circular economy, contribute to the fulfilment of rights that the European Pillar of Social Rights recognises as essential for fair and well-functioning labour markets and social protection systems. 🔄 👉 Such measures would reinforce socially and environmentally driven actors to implement a Green Social Deal. 🌱 Read about our key priorities for unlocking the potential of social enterprises in our Manifesto 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gWqvAyTw #socialeconomy #socialenterprises #circulareconomy #socialandcircular #secondhandfirst #greendeal #europeanunion
