Here's a great article from McKinsey on design thinking. They found a strong correlation between high McKinsey Design Index (MDI) scores and superior business performance. Top-quartile MDI scorers increased their revenues and total returns to shareholders (TRS) substantially faster than their industry counterparts did over a five-year period—32 percentage points higher revenue growth and 56 percentage points higher TRS growth for the period as a whole.

We're surrounded by heaps of evidence that design solves business problems. IBM found that companies that have fully adopted business design prize design as a revenue generator more so than other businesses — a whopping 82% more. And yet ... McKinsey research also found that just 10% of companies are realising their full design potential. The struggle to communicate, and realise, the value of design is real. All too often the role of design within an organisation is just not understood, let alone valued.
