The search for Surly’s 2024 Featured Darkness Artist is underway! Every year, we select one artist to create label art for our Darkness line of imperial stouts–the original, the barrel-aged, and all variants. This designer will be creating, narrating, and defining Darkness for an entire year. The art will be featured on boxes, cans, posters, shirts, and more. Basically, we’re letting you tell the next chapter in the story of one of our brewery’s most beloved, legendary beers. Other than that, no pressure. Lest we forget, this is a paying gig: $3,000. We expect the artist to work through concepts and designs with the crew at Surly and deliver on a specific timeline. Here’s what you need to do: 1. Submit three (3) art files in .jpeg or .pdf format for review. These should be working examples that represent your design aesthetic. We’re not asking you to design anything new for this project. IMPORTANT: Please title your three submissions in this format: FirstNameLastName_Darkness2024_Sub1, etc. 2. Yes, the art needs to look fantastic on a package, but it also needs to look great on a t-shirt, in a social media post, on a custom mug, in print ads, beer hall advertisements, website banners, etc. Your design should be translatable across all these mediums. 3. The ideal candidate should be able to design, render, prepare and export print-ready EPS or AI files. Hand drawn files are great for entry, but we also need you to be able to convert them for print. Being from the Upper Midwest is not a requirement but it doesn’t hurt. We’ll tag you in our social media efforts to promote your work, so if you have a personal shop, Instagram account, etc., let us know! If you have what it takes, the form is linked below. Deadline for submissions is February 11, 2024. We hope to select an artist shortly thereafter, with the assignment lasting roughly four weeks per project (Darkness, Variants, Barrel-Aged). Please note that we’re taking design submissions under consideration for other beer projects throughout the year. If you’re not chosen for this year’s Darkness slot, there are other opportunities available in 2024! Good luck! https://lnkd.in/dd6G-S4c

Hey everyone! Excited to share the progress on my new design project - "𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧", tailored for Instagram post, for sales and promotions. 💡 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 : I recently came across an Instagram account selling jar candles with various shapes and fragrances. After seeing their post designs, I thought of trying it out myself to see if I can create a better design than the existing one. Also, this will be my 5th Poster Design for my design portfolio😄 🎯 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬: 1️⃣ 𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐭: The struggle is real! Hunting for the ideal jar candle images has been a challenge. Google and AI image generators have been elusive. Though there are some image generator tools which provide high quality and to-the-point images but they are all paid and cannot be downloaded in HD quality in free version. 2️⃣ 𝐅𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: Font selection is always a designer's puzzle! Finding the perfect font and its ideal pairing is a journey in itself. But recently I found some AI websites which provide you, your desired font pairing with simiilar font families of it. Will be sharing the website name soon for other 𝘍𝘰𝘯𝘵-𝘗𝘶𝘻𝘻𝘭𝘦𝘥 folks out there 🚀 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 - Started the design process about 13-14 days ago (proscatinated for 5-6 days 🙃), now almost 90% there! 🏁 Can't wait to share the final result soon. Meanwhile, have a sneak peak at my other designs - https://lnkd.in/gk8z_ZU4 Tags - #design #graphicdesign #candle #candleposter #candleposterdesign

Ever feel like you’re designing without a compass? 🧭 Like you have multiple options, but you get lost in the way and can’t decide? 🤔 Well, choosing a layout early on is definitely one of the things that could help you along the way. Here are a few benefits of it: ➡It provides a great structural foundation for the design making it easier to organize everything in a logical way. Plus, it sets the stage for diving into all the fun details later without getting lost in the chaos. ➡ Not every outfit goes with every occasion, right? Similarly, not all elements will work with every layout. So, by figuring out your layout first, you can avoid the headache of picking out images or illustrations that just don't fit the vibe you're going for. ➡It’s a real game-changer when it comes to saving time! ➡ It helps establish a clear visual hierarchy You can strategically position and size elements to create a clear visual hierarchy. making sure the viewer catches all the important information. ➡ Presenting your layout sketch early on isn't just about showing off your skills. It's about opening up a dialogue with your client, making it easier to incorporate their feedback and preferences in the beginning. ➡ And the most fun part: While it provides structure, it also allows you to be creative and experiment within the established framework, so you can focus on colors, details, textures, and font choice without interrupting that process by moving things around. Overall, starting with a layout upfront saves time, and energy, prevents you from making mistakes early on allowing you to focus on the most fun part without being fearful and overwhelmed with everything that comes next. ✨ Here's a poster design I created recently, using this technique. . . . . . 📧 Need help with illustration/graphic design? Working with new startup businesses looking to make a splash 💦 with their logo and branding. looking for a refresh or need artwork? 🖼 i'm here to help get you noticed in a sea of faces. so let's chat 🐙
I had a day off from posting my monday 'whatif' so this is a day late :) This week Olly has decided to try his hand or tentacles into the estate agency space. The graphical mark is based on a pitched roof, using the PO. Still using pink and also borrowed the blue from the current brand. New fonts have been used, went looking for a thicker & bolder font so it stands out when used in certain scenario's. Also the main font is pretty playful as well, hopefully, captions it's not a boring estate agency. why do i do this? For me, it's a way of a) showing of my skills ;) b) showing how when you understand the industry and the audience, these have an impact on your design decisions to create a brand that appeals to the right people. Have a look and let us know what you think. if you have an idea of what i can do next then shout & i'll see what i can do :) #Whatif #ThePinkOctopus #LogoDesign

Hello LinkedIn Community, I hope you're all doing well! I'm a professional thumbnail designer specializing in creating eye-catching thumbnails for documentaries. I recently designed a new thumbnail and would love to get your feedback on it. To make this process more efficient, I've used AI to generate a few specific questions. Your input on these questions would be incredibly valuable: 1. Visual Appeal: How visually appealing do you find the thumbnail? (Rate from 1 to 10) 2. Color Scheme: Do the colors used in the thumbnail catch your eye and fit the theme of the documentary? 3. Overall Impression: What is your overall impression of the thumbnail? 4. Suggestions for Improvement: Do you have any suggestions or ideas for improving the design?

However, poorly designed icons can make your users have a bad experience and accessibility issues. - Icons need to have those emotions to engage the users. - They should be remembered in a second - They also need to be accessible for disabled users (use ALT text) Follow me to get more amazing tips and tricks that increase your level of thinking. #icondesign #iconography #pictogram #icon #hearticon #icontutorial #thecraftr #branding #uidesign #visual #uxdesign #illustrator #figma #design #productdesign #assets #vector #graphics #webdesigninspiration #userinterface #userexperience #uitrends #appdesign #interfaceicon

I am starting a blog! I know, sooo 90ies ;-) In my inaugural post, I am refueling my passion for typography. The post is about my personal Top 3 Type trends. While this is certainly a design topic, it might be also interesting to marketing and product managers. There are so many more options out there beyond the ubiquitous geometric sans serifs (Proxima, Montserrat, Avenir, Avant Garde, etc.). You will find answers to questions you always wanted to ask: 1️⃣ What typeface does Figma use and what are ink traps good for, really? 2️⃣ How do I make my food packaging look hip? 3️⃣ What have the Beach Boy's Pet Sounds Album and the low-cost carrier easyJet in common? 4️⃣ How can I increase Google's ranking with Variable Typefaces? Okay, you might have not asked this yourself, but you should have ;-) At the end of each trend, you will find links to the examples, featuring mostly independent type foundries. Check it out and please let me know how you like it. What are your favorite type trends?
