#6WeeksToTech EntryLevel Product Management Level 2 - Let us finally get started with Level 2 after a recap of Product Management Level 1 Today we will talk about something that is the core ‘unit’ of work that you would be outputting as a product manager. You guessed it right! It is the  Product Requirement Document (PRD)! Imagine this - you’re stranded on a desert island. With no help in sight, you're left to sit with your thoughts... You’re thinking: ‘If I don’t make it back, how do I communicate this new feature that our product needs to the engineers, CEO, and designers??’ Conveniently, you have a pencil, piece of paper and a glass bottle. You write down the requirements, what the feature needs to include, the user stories, and all the information that all of your team will ever need to know how to ship this feature without you. That is essentially what a Product Requirement Document (PRD) is. While the format of the PRD may vary widely in different companies, it usually includes the following sections: 📲 User Flow and Design 🎯 Key Objectives of the product 💹 Performance Metrics 📱 Product Features 📅 Desired Release Date 🚀 Product Launch Sometimes you may get stuck while writing a PRD , or face a "Block" of sorts. Here is a useful technique that I learnt in the EntryLevel program that will help you get started. To get started, reflect on these points: 💡 Who will be using the app and why?  💡What user pain points would this product be addressing? 💡What is currently happening in this space/industry? 💡Describe the ideal user experience. How will the app be used on a daily basis? What screens and interactions will users encounter as they use the app?💡Identify any potential challenges or limitations of the app. What considerations will you need to take into account as you develop the app? #productmanagement #productowner #entrylevel #product

Currently for many SAAS orgs and digital products, there is considerable role confusion and sometimes role collision between product management, project management, program management, product marketing, and product and UX design. And the list could goes on: product owners, agile scrum managers, etc. This can lead to clutter and a lack of coherence in what is being built and why—and how it delivers value and a consistently great experience for customers. That was the recent focus of AirBnB founder and CEO Brian Chesky's move to elevate the scope and charter of product marketing managers and product designers at AirBnB. With a clarfiying perspective, Marty Cagan weighs in on the idea of product leadership also sourced from design or engineering and what the supporting org design then looks like. Linear has an interesting product build methodology...and I have some hot takes: "No PdM. PdM duties are distributed across engineering and design" = Team members are taking on roles/responsibilities outside their core craft/value driver "Teams assemble then disperse" = Increased context switching to ramp up and down into new initiatives "No metrics based goals" = No accountability "Decisions are based on taste and opinions" = The product lacks data-based decision making and might not be serving genuine user needs "Paid work trial. Job candidates join a real project for 1-5 days" = A test on output vs outcomes "Completely remote" = Wonderful! More cash in the bank = I couldn't find Linear on Glassdoor and their job openings do not list salary bands. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ All of my statements are speculative, but Linear's product development methodology shouldn't be considered as a silver bullet formula. Every team, product and culture is different and your product build methodology likely reflects that uniqueness.
