I've spent the last few years trying to figure out the best way to use the skills I developed founding Mixpanel to contribute to the fight against climate change. I think we've found it with Recheck. In the US we primarily have a deployment problem–we need to deploy solutions much faster than we are–and the best way to contribute with software is to solve deployment bottlenecks. After investigating many possible approaches, Garret Heaton, Chris Collins, and I have decided to focus on residential solar. There are a number of things slowing the deployment of residential solar. One of them is public perception. The vast majority of the people involved in solar are in it for the right reasons, but there are a small number of bad actors that are out there taking advantage of people–typically the most vulnerable people–with little to no accountability. This is painful for the people affected and harms the reputation of the entire industry. With Recheck, we want to help solve this problem. With the support of the Solar Energy Industries Association, we've built a coalition of some of the most influential organizations in the industry, who are all going to use Recheck to add transparency and accountability to the solar sales process with the goal of preventing future misconduct. Many thanks to our partners Dividend, Freedom Forever, GoodLeap, Mosaic, Palmetto, Sungage Financial, Sunlight Financial, and Sunrun for supporting Recheck as part of their ongoing efforts to ensure that every household that goes solar has a great experience.
It’s official! Today we launched Recheck, the first-ever verification platform to bring true accountability and transparency to the residential solar industry. Using the Recheck ID, a unique identification number, contractors, financiers, and technology platforms will be able to ensure their partners meet certification, licensing, and training requirements to help them provide the highest-quality customer experience. Together, solar and data analytics veterans Chris Collins, Garret Heaton and Tim Trefren have created the only comprehensive, industry-wide verification system. A special thank you to our partner the Solar Energy Industries Association and founding partners Dividend, Freedom Forever, GoodLeap, Mosaic (joinmosaic.com), Palmetto, Sungage Financial, Sunlight Financial, and Sunrun, who are helping to drive adoption across the majority of the US market. https://lnkd.in/eHVRinWk

Behold a brand new era in residential solar with the launch of the first nationwide monitoring and compliance platform. This is the first big move towards licensure, compliance and regulation that the industry has sorely lacked to this point. Our industry has now matured to a point that it is necessary for us to grow into our next evolution of professional accountability. We have had the misfortune to experience firsthand the harm that can be done to our collective industry due to the negligence and disregard of ethics perpetrated by the few. This new evolution will be a significant step in winning back consumer confidence in our industry. The expectation is that this will begin rollout in Q4 as companies and reps enroll/ test and register. And by Q1 2025 this will be a mandatory requirement for any seller / company wishing to sell any of the financial products. It is now time to… Wake up Clean up Grow up Show up We are just getting started and the best is truly ahead. https://lnkd.in/gXcpx5mS

👉👉Thanks to Solar Builder Magazine for highlighting the important work the Solar Energy Industries Association is doing to bring #sales and #installation standards to the ☀️ #solar industry. Last week was Solar Customers Appreciation Week, and the most effective way to promote the well-being of solar customers across the board is to weed out unscrupulous actors who either don’t deliver what was promised or installers who do shoddy work and give the entire industry a black eye. I have long called for standards to be set, and I was thrilled when SEIA announced its partnership with Recheck ✔️ to set standards. Now the first standards are out, and they’re powerful tools we can use as an industry to build trust with consumers who are unfamiliar with how solar works but are interested in exploring it as an alternative to traditional grid-supplied power. What are your thoughts on SEIA’s efforts? Are they, as I believe, an enormous leap forward for the industry? Let me know in the comments. https://lnkd.in/epKUypxb #Deliveringacleanenergyfuture #commercialsolar #communitysolar

🏠 When it comes to going solar, the choice of contractor is everything. The recent exit of ADT Solar from the residential solar market is a stark reminder that not all solar companies are created equal. Read about the reasons why such a highly recognized name-brand company couldn't stay afloat as residential solar installers across Northcentral Florida 👉 https://lnkd.in/d8AmWKRQ While ADT Solar offered some of the industry's most competitive warranties and top brands, they struggled to connect with the unique needs of local markets, leading to a significant downturn in their business and leading to closure. This highlights an important lesson for homeowners: success in solar energy isn't just about the quality of products but about choosing a provider that understands and adapts to your local environment, regulations, and energy needs. Choose a solar company with deep and proven local expertise and personalized service to ensure your switch to solar is seamless and tailored to you. Check why Hine's family realtor advised them to choose PPM Solar to install their system 👉 https://lnkd.in/dtgyWv7E

Earlier this week, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) introduced a voluntary “Consumer Bill of Rights” framework for States to incorporate into their upcoming Home Energy Rebate programs. The framework outlines 12 key rights for consumers, with the goal of empowering homeowners with clear, transparent information as they navigate energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades for their homes. Our customer engagement solution, WattPlan®, has long enabled state energy agencies, utilities and other organizations to deliver on these ideas. Specifically, WattPlan supports three critical elements of the DOE’s Consumer Bill of Rights framework: Availability of Information, Information on Home Energy Rebates and Energy Bill Impact. If you are an energy professional, or program or product manager at a state, tribal or territorial energy agency, a utility or another organization and you are looking for ways to demonstrate your commitment to educating consumers and even take WattPlan for a spin yourself, you will enjoy this blog. https://lnkd.in/guEQbnq5

🚨🚨I jumped with joy when I saw this news break late last week: @Solar Power World’s Kelsey Misbrener reported that Recheck, a verification platform for residential ☀️ #solar salespeople and installers that brings transparency and accountability to the sales process, is partnering with the Solar Energy Industries Association to develop a nationwide registry of reputable #solar installers. Many of us in the industry have called for such a registry for years to protect consumers from some unscrupulous businesses who trade on solar’s good name to take advantage of the vulnerable. This move by SEIA and its fearless leader Abby Hopper will raise the standards for installers across the country and ensure our reputation isn’t harmed by people trying to get rich quickly on the back of our ever-maturing industry. Will everyone make the cut? No. But the best companies in the industry have nothing to fear from rising standards for everyone. I know I’m thrilled by this news, but I’ll throw it out to the rest of you: What do you think? Will raising the barriers to entry into the industry help or harm it? Let me know in the comments. https://lnkd.in/eU47AHvX #Deliveringacleanenergyfuture #commercialsolar #communitysolar
