Scatec ASA and Equinor have agreed to fully divest the 117 MW Guañizuil IIA solar power plant in Argentina to Central Puerto. The 117 MW Guañizuil IIA solar power plant was originally developed and built in 2021 by Scatec and Equinor as a 50:50 joint venture. During the construction phase, Equinor had provided a a non-recourse bridge loan to the joint venture which had to be refinanced in due course, though the companies were unable to refinance the loan to the ‘increasingly challenging political and economic situation in Argentina’. “Therefore, a sales process was initiated and during the second quarter firm offers from potential buyers have been received,” explained Scatec in its Q2 and H1 2023 results. “These came in significantly below the current total book value of the project. Consequently, Scatec has recognised an impairment charge of NOK 350 million in the second quarter, corresponding to the full book value of the equity investment.” In addition to the solar plant, Scatec and Equinor will also sell their shares in their local operating services company to Argentinian power generator Central Puerto. As a result of the sale, Scatec will now exit Argentina’s clean energy market. #cleanenergy
