It’s kind of become a rule at our house that you can’t say you hate something without being good at it. So when our daughter said “I don’t like snowboarding” after her first time, she inadvertently enrolled herself in lessons for the next 3 months. And…. Surprise. She’s LOVED it. We bought her full set up and she was devastated when Sundance Mountain Resort closed on Sunday. Moral of the story: Whatever you’re pushing off… it’s probably something you need to keep practicing. For me? It’s getting better at cold calling 😂
I love this idea.
Oh my goodness, I’ve been trying to figure out how to articulate this principle with my kids for awhile to keep them open-minded about things. This was exactly what I needed: you can’t say you hate something without being good at it. 👊
The father of Sarah Blakely, former CEO of Spanx, would encourage his children to fail at some thing every day. It taught them to have the courage to try things and to learn from the failings. Your strategy with your kids is brilliant and fun and, not surprisingly, successful. Love it.
Bro… moments like this melt my little daddy heart
I love this! There ain’t nothing better then seeing a tiny human, puffed out like a marshmallow, shredding. Oh and your rule about hating stuff, definitely gonna use that as my measuring stick. Too bad I’m REALLY bad at running, I may never be able to say I “hate” running.
Great rule!!!
Great message and we can all get better at cold calls.
I remember when my twins first started riding
“You can’t say you hate something without being good at it.” Immediately adding this to our house rules, as well as my personal ethos. THANK YOU for this Renato! And congrats to your awesome daughter on her new hobby!

3moWhen my son, who was 6 at the time, was clearly not learning on the bunny slopes-- because you know there's not enough momentum-- I pulled him off and took him up to the blue runs with me. He looked down the hill and freaked out. I said, there's only one way down buddy. After some screaming and crying he finally tried it, was successful and absolutely loved it from that point. How can one fly if there's no air under their wings, right?
