Yes and all the same points also apply to #shellfish reefs - of which over 90% are now considered functionally extinct world wide. #Oyster reefs may not appear as pretty but they provide fish habitat, cycle nutrients, prevent shore erosion AND they filter they improve #waterquality through their filter feeding activities. They also provide #medicine, with oysters themselves containing antibacterial and antiviral compounds in their blood and healthful polyunsaturated fatty acids in their flesh. However, they are only healthy if their evironment is clear. #waterpollution is one of the major threats to all reefs, in addition to #climatechange and over-exploitation. We needs to be considering multiple stressors to effectively manage all our incredible reef ecosystems.
