Did you know only 63% of underserved, low-income students graduate high school in Palm Beach County? One of our grantees, Suits For Seniors is working to increase that number by providing high school students with the resources they need, helping them break the cycle of poverty and create a better future for themselves and their families. Their program has an astonishing 100% high school graduation rate compared to the Florida average of 81%. Also, their participants go on to enroll in college at a rate of 95% compared to the Florida average of 59%. This #BlackHistoryMonth, we encourage you to consider supporting organizations like Suits for Seniors by donating to the Community Impact Fund: bit.ly/3HT7bFB

It is absolutely criminal that this amount of capital sits unused and held in these tax avoidance vehicles. This is capital raised off of the labor of working classes, stagnant wages, refusal to provide benefits such as health insurance, hyper-low tax rates for corporations, successful lobbying and campaign spending to destroy regulatory effectiveness, and dirty climate practices. To name a few things. Claw it all back, and let voters decide. For those unfamiliar, a Donor Adivsed Fund, or DAF, is an account that people can put assets into, and thereby avoid paying capital gains tax on those assets. If the asset is worth more than when they purchased it, they can deduct the current market value instead of the original cost. The donor can take a deduction for the year the money is moved into the fund, but is under no obligation to distribute it.
We launched our Get Off Your Assets campaign in 2019 as a call to move more money, more urgently to meet the needs of marginalized communities. If not now, when? Our partners answered the call: while other donor-advised fund providers usually have a spend-down rate of around 20% per year, Tides Foundation DAFs show an astonishing average spend-down rate of more than 70% per year. We must keep going—and as the year draws to a close, we’re asking all of philanthropy to join us. Movement leaders have told us that 2023 has been the most challenging fundraising year in the past five years. We must stand united in defense of democracy, social justice, and our climate. None of it can wait. Read the full letter from Tides Foundation Executive Director Peter Martin: https://lnkd.in/eHSukV7Y #philanthropy #nonprofit

Calling all Gwinnett residents, employees, and employers! Help us keep our children warm this Winter by donating new or used coats from September 1 to September 30. Your coat donations will be distributed to children in need throughout the community during the month of October. Drop off your coats at any of our participating locations: (please email [email protected]) for a list of participating locations. I appreciate your generosity in helping us keep our children warm this winter. ❄️ I understand that it's hot outside now but the season will change. 🔥 Let's keep children warm during the winter months, especially those who are homeless or living in poverty. Our children staying warm during recess at school and while standing on bus stops are equally important. New coats are not necessary, used coats in good condition are also appreciated. The impact that your donation will have on a child's life is never ending. This is an initiative through my nonprofit organization Peace Gwinnett Inc. My goal is to Provide Equality Access Community and Empowerment to youth of Gwinnett County one activity and initiative at a time. #coatdrive #coatcollection #coatdonation #warmthewinter #keepwarm #givethegiftofwarmth #equality #childrencoats #sharethelove #communityempowerment #communityimpact #nonprofit #communityinitiative

Spreading Threads Clothing Bank is one of 51 nonprofit organizations to have been awarded a 2023 CORE Grant by the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona (CFSA) to the tune of $30,000. “This is a huge grant for Spreading Threads Clothing Bank and we can’t thank the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona enough for including us as one of this year’s grant recipients,” said Michele Wright, Co-Founder and Executive Director for Spreading Threads Clothing Bank. “This grant provides us with $30,000 in flexible working capital to allow us to expand our impact on foster children, adoptive children, and children living in kinship placement as well as the families supporting them. Right now, with the cost of living increases and inflation, many families need all of the assistance they can get and this grant from CFSA will help us to fill that need even better than before.” The CFSA announced in May 2023 that it awarded a total of $1,225,000 in general operating grants to nonprofits that are working to positively impact and improve the quality of life for those living in Southern Arizona. This is the largest grant round in CFSA’s 43-year history.
