The rapid pace of funding and building of ambitious submarine cable infrastructure shows no signs of abating despite a changed economic cycle. The pace of growth in the subsea cable sector, and the secular market forces driving such growth – including increasing demands for #data and low latency capacity – are likely to fuel increased M&A activity in the space. Partners Stuart Blythe and Jonathan Gordon and Senior Associate Costa Smith explain what’s driving this increase in subsea cable M&A activity and what #investors should do to navigate it successfully:

#international_backhaul #CLS A cable landing station is a facility where submarine communication cables make landfall and are connected to terrestrial networks. These stations serve as the interface between the undersea portion of the cable system and the onshore telecommunications infrastructure. Here are key aspects of cable landing stations: 1. **Termination Point:** Cable landing stations are the endpoints of submarine cables, where the cables emerge from the ocean and connect to the land-based telecommunications infrastructure. 2. **Equipment Installation:** Various equipment, including Submarine Line Terminal Equipment (SLTE), Line Monitoring Equipment (LME), and Power Feeding Equipment (PFE), is installed at cable landing stations to facilitate the transmission, monitoring, and power supply for the submarine cables. 3. **Connection to Terrestrial Networks:** The cables from the ocean connect to equipment within the landing station, and from there, they link to terrestrial networks, such as fiber optic networks or other communication systems. 4. **Security and Maintenance:** Cable landing stations are secured facilities due to the critical nature of the infrastructure they house. They also include monitoring and maintenance capabilities to ensure the optimal performance and reliability of the submarine cable systems. 5. **Access Points:** These stations often serve as access points for service providers and telecommunications companies to connect to the global network and exchange data internationally. #international_backhaul
