Vestiaire Collective is making a bold statement against fast fashion, banning 30 new brands, including Gap, H&M, and Zara. Following the announcement yesterday, controversy has arisen, sparking discussions about the impact this will have on the already limited lifespan of fast fashion garments. Some question whether this move will accelerate the disposal of these items into landfills. However, it's crucial to consider the bigger picture here and recognise the pressing need for a shift towards sustainable fashion practices, which is exactly what this move represents. Also, there's an array of alternative platforms, such as Depop, Vinted and eBay, still available for these clothes. Vestiare's decision is a strategic move to discourage support for fast fashion brands. This initiative isn't merely about pushing pricier items; it signifies a belief that less is more, with an emphasis on high-quality garments. What are your thoughts on Vestiare's stand against fast fashion? Share your opinions in the comments below! #Vestiaire #Secondhand #Shopping

Transparency continues to be a popular topic of conversation in the fashion world, and we couldn't be more pleased that it's getting the recognition it deserves. Jack Stratten from Insider Trends summed it up perfectly in his talk on 'Sourcing and Storytelling - the selling power of retail transparency' at Source Fashion this week 👏 We believe transparency in fashion is the catalyst for a more sustainable fashion industry. #fashiontransparency #fashionsustainability #transparencytool

Vestiaire Collective just banned fast fashion♻️ Vestiaire Collective, a luxury marketplace priding itself on the finest designer selections online, is making a bold move by prohibiting all fast fashion on its platform. This decision aligns with the brand's commitment to fostering a circular fashion economy and driving collective change. 🌎🌱 The move may be seen as controversial, in part because it eliminates one potential avenue for extending the life of fast fashion garments before they are discarded. Vestiaire says the aim is to shift shoppers away from buying low-quality or disposable garments in the first place, by cultivating a marketplace that promotes both quality and affordability.💚 “We wanted to reduce waste in people’s wardrobes, and that waste is mainly coming from fast fashion because it has no value, and as a consequence very little resale value.” - The president and co-founder of the platform, Fanny Moizant. “A panel discussion with the founder of branded recommerce company Trove, Andy Ruben, joined by executives from Worldly and Paul Dillinger of Levi Strauss & Co. detailed the resale market for the titled “Resale’s Role in Decarbonizing Fashion” chat. The focus was on the potential of resale initiatives to facilitate brand expansion - reclaim aftermarket profits of circulating merchandise - while also reducing the fashion industry’s carbon footprint." Starting today, Vestiaire Collective is banning a second wave of fast fashion giants from its platform in an effort to promote more sustainable alternatives. Last November, we announced a 3-year plan to progressively remove fast fashion brands from our platform. And this year, we're taking one step further on our mission to change the fashion industry for a more sustainable future. 🌱 📢 92 million tons of textile waste is discarded every year. That’s enough to fill the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building or Buckingham Palace every day. Furthering our commitment to create a more circular economy, Vestiaire Collective worked with a committee of nine sustainable fashion experts to come up with a clear definition of fast fashion and leverage this framework to ban industry giants such as ZARA SA, H&M, MANGO, Urban Outfitters… among others. In a few days, it’s gonna be Black Friday again, a moment in the year where consumption will skyrocket, especially of fast fashion. That's the moment we have chosen to start a movement and to ask consumers to 'THINK FIRST, BUY SECOND'. We invite you to be a part of it. 👈 Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/eD4peS8Q #ThinkFirstBuySecond
