“… A CBC News 🗞️ analysis of the data 📊 reveals that what has been framed as a nationwide explosion 💥 in international 👨🎓 👩🏻🎓 numbers — prompting Ottawa to impose an immediate two-year cap — is disproportionately linked to a handful of schools 🏫 , the vast bulk of them public institutions, predominantly in Ontario…” “…Of the 30 Canadian colleges 🇨🇦 and universities granted the most international study permits last year, all but one are public. Good to see prompt response. The Universities UK Board said it was taking three "immediate actions": A "rapid review" of foundation programmes for international and domestic students, looking at their "quality and comparability" A review of the Agent Quality Framework, which outlines "checks and balances" when universities use agents to help recruit international students A review of the Admissions Code of Practice, which sets out expectations for university processes #standards #applications #foundation #admissions #univeristy https://lnkd.in/ehc_Qe7b

Thought Leader in Real Estate, Workplace and Facility Management Advisor @ Bucks New University | Project Management, Engineering, Environment & Construction
2 of my 4 have already gone though HE; a combined 11 years of costs. The outstanding benefit of learning independence and life experience alongside education changes them into more mature and capable adults. However, it appears that many post grads simply do not have jobs that warrant that investment. Debt creates stress. Perhaps the way forward is not the current scale of HE provision but a FE/ apprenticeship level of education for more. Less debt, more work.
The higher education sector is experiencing many challenges and market disruptions. Students like the rest of society are not immune to the cost of living increase and this is changing behaviours. One of the challenges is that many universities have signed long deals for private accommodation linked to CPI or RPI inflation and this is putting up costs for students. Maybe some students will stay at home to save costs and this will be a further challenge for many universities as income is effected.
Soaring rents may force students to turn down top university choices or live at home — inews

Looking to compound investment at SPX 10% over a long period of time; I DO NOT make unsolicited investment.
Viewed from the Economics point of view, this is the classic conflict between the infinite wants and finite resource. We all wants everything for free! In higher education, the society/government wants: 1 A large portion of society to obtain university education 2 A world leading higher education sector 2 no needs for UK students to pay for their education (at least upfront) 3 taxpayers not paying too much for either the students for the world leading professors In the sense, it was lucky the UK universities found enough foreign students to pick up the bill in the last decade. But if we add no foreign students to the requirement as well, who shall pay all the bills going forward then? https://lnkd.in/eU6EAb7j

Are "back door" routes for sub-standard international students taking spots from UK students? Or do International Foundation/International Year One options level the playing field? At TTT, only 2 of our many international students have been offered the International Foundation by UK universities, but both students and their parents rejected it in favour of the standard UCAS route and working for the grades. What do you think about the International Foundation/International Year One? Share your thoughts in the comments. #university #internationaleducation #internationalstudents
