The team at VSL Australia recently completed the Kangaroo Valley Pipeline #bearingreplacement for 47 of 105 bearing locations for our client, Diona on behalf of WaterNSW. The 2.6km long pipeline runs through the Morton National Park, in Avoca NSW and connects to the Kangaroo Valley hydro-power station. It is a critical piece of infrastructure, producing 160 megawatts of power for the area. The site was challenging as it is remote, steep, and has limited cell coverage. We took every measure to ensure health and safety was top of mind. A non-invasive custom jacking arrangement designed by VSL presented far less risk of damaging the pipeline or its protective coatings which was of upmost concern throughout the project. Key Achievements: ✅ A quality result for our client, the asset owner and the local community. 💡 Smarter engineering provided value for money for our client as well as increased efficiency on site. 🍃 Bearings were replaced and recycled, part of our shared commitment with Diona to sustainable practice in construction. 📏 The scalability of this design enables us to refine it further using lessons learned and replicate it for similar applications - a true innovation to an already non-invasive approach. Enhancing water supply resilience is challenging for Anglian Water. The East of England, where it operates, is the UK’s driest region and is experiencing considerable population growth. In addition, it has important wetland ecosystems, meaning that it must minimise water abstraction. 3, 2, 1! Nope, we’re not joining the race to space, but we’d forgive you for thinking we were. This photo (right) from deep underground at our Central Interceptor site on Blockhouse Bay’s Dundale Avenue is giving us launch pad vibes. This month, a 33-tonne section of a fibreglass liner - that huge green thing - was placed into the shaft. At that weight you can understand why it took 30 minutes to get it into position. There’s two more sections to go to make it whole. If you’re wondering what the liner does, well, wastewater can eat away at things including the shaft wall, so the liner helps protect it and extends its life. While wastewater won’t be flowing through the 14.7km Central Interceptor tunnel for a wee while yet, preparation is key so we’re ready for the official lift off.
