Innovation has been at the core of V&R Energy for over 30 years, since its inception. From integrating our software with ChatGPT and developing an automated topology optimizer long before it became known as one of the GETs, to pioneering online automated cascading analysis and the first field deployment of a distribution linear state estimator in the United States, V&R Energy has been at the forefront of developing and deploying innovative technologies. We also introduced fast fault screening for IBR-rich grids and invented a synchrophasor-based EMS system, further establishing ourselves as pioneers in the industry. Marianna Vaiman, CEO of V&R Energy discussed the importance of innovation during the suppression “Spark of Innovation: Exploring Decarbonization from Electrification” at the 2024 IEEE Power & Energy Society T&D Conference. Power generation and transmission are undergoing rapid change as knowledge keeps evolving. Aggregating the generated energy to minimise loss, enable control and enhance improved economic performance requires a transmission corridor that supports the aforementioned advantages. HVDC is the preferred option in this regard. However, providing distributed measurements of the network variables for early detection and mitigation of fault conditions lacks a mature solution. This paper presents a proposed photonic current sensing method as a solution to this challenge. I hope you find it interesting. 🙈 Don't mind me saying this.....The paper was an award-winning article in the IEEE I2MTC 2024 Best Conference Paper award category.

We are excited to announce that The Advanced Grid Innovation Laboratory for Energy (AGILe), New York Power Authority will be partnering and exhibiting at IECON 2024. The Advanced Grid Innovation Laboratory for Energy (AGILe) is a world-class power systems laboratory that tests, models, and validates new solutions for energy systems. AGILe provides real-time grid-level simulation that can rigorously test the impacts of extreme events or technologies without physically connecting to the grid. The ability to simulate multiple conditions of the grid reduces the risk of new technologies and accelerates the development of reliable products. By providing electric utilities, governments, universities, high-tech businesses, and independent system operators (ISOs) from around the world with grid models developed on state-of-the-art simulation tools and advanced testing facilities, AGILe accelerates improvements towards a more reliable and efficient electric grid. Researcher in High-Performance Computing of Power Systems and Electronics (CPU, GPU, FPGA, etc.); Power Systems Engineer
Inverter-based resources (IBRs) are pivotal in transitioning to eco-friendly smart grids, which time-domain simulations have studied intensively. Due to their model complexity, IBRs in power system electromagnetic transient simulation are limited to a few or lumped to maintain a decent simulation speed. Parallel simulation of numerous traditional IBR models on heterogeneous CPU-GPU has been investigated with a significant potential demonstrated in previous work including https://lnkd.in/grDaqqsH https://lnkd.in/gEMRU-Sp https://lnkd.in/gFieAaxw Our recent work below proposes a data-oriented, machine-learning-enhanced approach to model numerous renewable energy assets for power system study via parallel electromagnetic transient simulation on CPU-GPU architecture. Two types of neural networks are adopted for training IBRs, i.e., Multi-Layer Perceptron for photovoltaic arrays, and Gated Recurrent Unit for wind turbines and battery energy storage. Based on the IEEE 118-Bus system integrated with 2 million renewable energy entities, the parallel simulation on GPU is reported to be 400 times faster than traditional CPU nonlinear solutions. #artificial_neural_network #gated_recurrent_unit #GPU #parallel_electromagnetic_transient_simulation #inverter_based_resources #machine_learning #renewable_energy https://lnkd.in/ggFsVnVJ
