Join the discussion at our event with UNEP One Planet network - 10YFP, as part of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development! 🌍 The private sector has a pivotal role in advancing the SDGs, yet its contributions are largely voluntary. Capturing its impact is essential for assessing national progress which is why mandatory #policy instruments are needed for consistent measurement, reporting and implementation. 🛠️ During the webinar we will provide recommendations on how to boost private sector's reporting, and its participation in the SDGs. We will also suggest improvements to the 2023 Voluntary National Reviews (#VNRs). The Europe Sustainable Development Report 2023/24 (ESDR), a new report produced by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) reveals that decisive actions must be taken in the European Union (EU) to avoid irreversible environmental and dangerous social tipping points as well as maintain the promise of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement. The fifth edition of the ESDR, which includes the SDG Index and Dashboards and tracks progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the EU, highlights that at the current rate, a third of SDG targets will not be achieved by the EU by 2030, with significant differences across European countries. In particular, the report underlines stagnation and reversal in progress in many European countries on social targets with growing issues around access to and quality of services for all, as well as poverty and material deprivation. The report also finds that the EU is responsible for significant negative “international spillovers," driven partly by unsustainable consumption and international supply chains. To address these challenges, the report offers essential contributions for the EU to strengthen its SDG leadership at home and internationally. details: https://lnkd.in/dqZZN3ZW

SDG 6 cuts across our entire work agenda!

As of today, only 15% of the global targets defined in the #2030Agenda for Sustainable Development are on track, and many are going backwards. The #SDGSummit provided "a unique platform for us to recommit to the 2030 Agenda." said Dennis Francis, President of the #UN General Assembly. Policymakers can still ensure that we achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). For this to happen, we must recognize the central role of water in all of them. High-Level Political Forum 2023 - Last month, the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development took place in New York, with a focus on "accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels." Along with the many presenters that spoke at this event, some of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), like Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, were thoroughly looked at to ensure that The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is on the right path towards implementation. #WHO has just presented their new Results Report 2023, which sheds light on the progress and achievements made towards #health-related #SDGs. Despite the many challenges faced by the world, the report highlights that significant progress has been made. However, there is still a lot of work ahead to achieve the SDGs.
