JUNE 24 is International Day of #WomenInDiplomacy. 🌐 At SIWI, we are proud to support 'The Women in Water Diplomacy Network'. Since its inception in 2017 in the Nile Basin, the Network has gained tremendous momentum, reaching out to new members and expending to other regions all over the world. But most importantly, the Network plays an instrumental role in lifting members up in their careers. The illustration by SIWI's Radhika Gupta, was created for the last Global Network Forum, in Vienna, supported by Environmental Law Institute, OSCE and The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia. This artwork is a reminder of the collective power of women. Everyone is lifting each other up, to reach new heights by scaling the mountain itself. 🏔️ --- #SIWI #watergovernance #WaterDiplomacy #BridgingBorders #WaterSolutions #WaterWomen #GenderEquality #Gender #Inclusion

Our Executive Director Kate Dundas is in Canberra today, attending the launch of Australia's International Development Policy where Minister Wong spoke about Australia's commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals. Minister Wong said: "We all remain dedicated to implementing the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. They are the only internationally agreed blueprint for sustainable development for all people. We must ensure the coherent delivery of these goals - of the SDGs - because we know if we don't, what would take their place? Proposals that would lead to unsustainable development and disregard important matters like gender equality, environmental protection and human rights. It's long been humanity's shared project to pursue economic and social development and the credibility of the international system from which we all benefit depends on that project being truly advanced. So that is why we are committed in the Australian government to doing our part to deliver the full 2030 Agenda and all 17 Sustainable Development Goals." As we reach the halfway mark of the UN's deadline for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we will be guiding companies on where they can make the biggest fastest #impact before 2030. #watchthisspace Watch the recording of the live stream on YouTube (starts at 15 mins 40 secs): https://lnkd.in/e99K2fJb #2030agenda #SDGs #sustainability #sustainabledevelopment

How do you and your organisation support Australia's commitment to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? Meeting the SDGs requires action at every level as individuals, businesses, organisations, communities and the government. We are at the halfway point with 7 years to 2030.

The 24th of June is International Day of Women in Diplomacy. There are many reasons to strive for more, and more equal involvement of women in diplomacy. Research indicates that more diversity, gender equality and women empowerment leads to better outcomes of any process, whether in government or in the private sector. Diplomacy is no exception. To name a few of the benefits: ✔ Enhanced Diplomatic Outcomes and Decision-Making ✔ Promotion of Equality and Human Rights ✔ Improved Peace and Security Outcomes ✔ Economic Benefits and Development ✔ Strengthened Institutional Legitimacy and Credibility Knowing all this, the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the UN in Rome, pursues a feminist approach in its diplomatic work with the UN agencies for agriculture and food in Rome. "Regional and Global Dynamics of New Zealand's Political Landscape with a Focus on the Māori Party" The terms "regional" and "global" can be understood in different contexts, so let's clarify them in the context of New Zealand and the Māori Party: **1. Māori as a Regional Population**: - Māori people are the indigenous population of New Zealand. In the context of New Zealand, they are considered a regional population because they have deep historical and cultural ties to the country and its specific geographic region. **2. Māori as a Global Population**: - While Māori people primarily inhabit New Zealand, they can also be considered part of the global indigenous population. Indigenous populations worldwide often share common concerns, such as land rights, cultural preservation, and self-determination. In this sense, Māori people are part of the broader global indigenous community. **3. New Zealand as a Regional Country**: - New Zealand is primarily a regional country because it is a specific nation located in the South Pacific. It has its own unique culture, history, and geographic location. In the global context, New Zealand is often considered part of the Asia-Pacific region. **4. New Zealand as a Global Country**: - New Zealand also has global aspects. It participates in international affairs, trade, diplomacy, and global organizations. It has a role in global discussions on issues like climate change, human rights, and trade agreements. So, in this sense, it is part of the global community. **5. Māori Party and Regional/Global Networks**: - The Māori Party primarily operates regionally, focusing on Māori interests within New Zealand. However, it can also engage in international indigenous rights networks, connecting with other indigenous parties and organizations globally. - The Māori Party's regional focus is on serving the needs and aspirations of Māori people in New Zealand, but it can have a global perspective in advocating for indigenous rights. In summary, Māori people are both a regional population within New Zealand, with specific cultural and historical ties, and part of the global indigenous community, which shares common concerns with indigenous groups worldwide. New Zealand is both a regional country, with a distinct regional identity, and a global country, actively participating in global affairs. The Māori Party, while primarily regional in its focus, can also engage in global networks related to indigenous rights and global indigenous populations.

“We can and we must be United Nations” - @antoniogueterres The United Nations came into being 78 years toward the common goal of world peace after the Second World War. The UN also works to provide humanitarian assistance, protect human rights and uphold international law. More recently the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals have been set in order to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. Now more than ever, we need solutions to achieve international peace with rising geo political tensions and the latest devastating Israel -Gaza War, with women and children being the most affected in crisis situations. As UN Women’s Generation Equality Action Coalition Commitment Makers, AWCN’s mission is the advancement of women’s leadership in all fields. We are advocating for more equal female representation at the highest level in peace-building solutions. We believe our work focusing on SDG5 is instrumental to the achievement of a sustainable future for all 🌎🌱🕊️ Happy United Nations Day 🎉 📷: White House Government #UNDay2023 #SDG5 #AWCN #Genderequality

Senior Social Development Specialist/Head of Section-Social | Development and Humanitarian Consultant, Disaster Risk Reduction, Flood Response and Crises Management
Netherlands’ Feminist Foreign Policy Conference highlights need for quality financing via Donor Tracker Key topics on FFPs from the conference included: 1. Prioritize inclusivity: FFPs must involve and co-create policy with the communities they will impact, prioritizing safeguarding rights, peace, and gender equality. Inclusive FFPs should evaluate and address structures of power, including colonialist, racist, and patriarchal approaches to policy both domestically and abroad; 2. Integrate approaches: For FFPs to be truly feminist, countries must use a whole-of-government approach, rather than focusing exclusively on the development envelope. Other ministries, such as defense, diplomacy, trade, immigration, and environment must also incorporate the tenants of FFPs actively in their work; and 3. Support financing: For FFPs to work, women's rights organizations performing critical work in their communities need both increased and improved financing. According to the Association for Women's Rights in Development, just 0.13% of ODA goes to women's rights organizations and movements. It is crucial for donors and FFP advocates to ensure flexible, sustainable financing for gender equity. https://lnkd.in/eM_MtPPj #gender #genderequality #genderequity

🌍 Today, on the 24th of October, we celebrate UN Day! 🇺🇳 This date holds special significance as it marks the anniversary of the UN Charter coming into effect in 1945. 🎉 During the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly, I had the privilege of representing the youth of Luxembourg as the UN Youth delegate alongside Julien Wald. Together, we witnessed the unwavering commitment of the United Nations to fundamental values: human rights protection, international cooperation, sustainable development, and global peace. 🕊 Our experience at the UN General Assembly underscored the vital role of youth in international affairs. In today's world, every issue is a youth issue. It is imperative that we integrate the voices and concerns of young people into all aspects that shape our lives. 🤝
