#Water and climate #mitigation are intrinsically linked, yet severe knowledge gaps exist on the complexities and potentials between them. Experts teamed up to expose these gaps, alert to policy implications, and exchange knowledge in the sixth chapter of the landmark report, 'The Essential Drop to Reach Net-Zero.' #Adaptation | Blue forests are incredibly important ecosystems, and if there is one type of blue forest ecosystem that needs increased support and protection, it is mangroves. So what kind of climate finance and development projects can be put in place to support them, and what considerations have to be made? 🌍 Climate Change Mitigation: The Role of Nature-Based Solutions in Infrastructure 🌿 Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges of our time, and the construction industry plays a crucial role in finding solutions. Nature-based solutions (NBS) are emerging as a key strategy for mitigating the impacts of climate change and enhancing the resilience of our infrastructure. Here are some highlights: Green Roofs: 🌱 Enhance urban biodiversity, reduce heat islands, and improve stormwater management. Urban Forests: 🌳 Improve air quality, provide shade, and reduce urban temperatures. Wetlands Restoration: 🦆 Natural buffers against floods, enhance water quality, and provide habitats for wildlife. Permeable Pavements: 🚗 Allow water to infiltrate the ground, reducing runoff and recharging groundwater. Coastal Ecosystem Restoration: 🏝️ Protect shorelines from erosion, provide habitats, and enhance fisheries. These nature-based solutions not only address environmental challenges but also bring numerous social and economic benefits. 🌍 Learn more about how NBS can transform our infrastructure in our latest article. The Climate Action Sensor (CAS) business toolkit offers MSMEs a convenient way to assess their business’s potential for climate action through self-assessment. By completing a simple evaluation, businesses can determine how they can contribute to climate action. The CAS enables MSMEs to measure their business’s resilience levels and analyze their impact on water, soil, and air. Furthermore, it helps them generate innovative ideas for an adaptation plan. Business Assistance Fiji (BAF) and Business Link Pacific (BLP) will link MSMEs with local climate advisors. These advisors can offer guidance in enhancing areas that require climate action. The MSMEs can access the CAS from their BLP SME account: https://lnkd.in/g-PffS4u #ClimateAction #ClimateActionSensor #mitigation #adaptation #resilience #GreenInnovation

Q: Are you making money or saving the planet? A: Yes. Entrepreneur. Investor. Board Member. Fund Advisor. CEO three times, twice successfully. Cancer survivor.
“Adaptation is highly cost-effective with, for example, every $1bn invested in protection against coastal flooding leading to a $14bn reduction in economic damages” Climate and sustainability efforts are defined by an amazingly unique potential combination of factors that allow us to create enormous planetary and financial impact — but, only if we act now, fast, and with immediate purpose. https://lnkd.in/gThRjd5s

#Water is the thread that connects climate change vulnerabilities and responses when it comes to climate #mitigation and #adaptation. 💦 Climate mitigation and adaptation measures must therefore focus on water as a priority. Countries are giving more predominance to water-related strategies in their nationally determined contributions (#NDCs) to the Paris Agreement. However, there remains considerable room for enhancing these measures, as many NDCs lack specific, quantitative targets and fail to consider the cross-sectoral impacts of water use. SIWI, through the support of #GIZ, has developed recommendations based on a review on how the inclusion of water has evolved within the NDCs. ⏩ Download the policy brief for a detailed analysis and examples from countries on how these national climate plans can be achieved in practice. 📄 --- #SIWI #WaterGovernance #WaterScarcity #WaterSolutions #Freshwater #ClimateChange #CliamteMitigation #ClimateAdaptation #ParisAgreement #SDGs #SDG6 #ResilientCities #Resilience

IWRM, Water-Food-Energy, Urban water-sanitation-drainage systems. Water connects the interrelated dimensions of development. It is a major driver of change, enabler and supporter of any human endeavour.
Water is at the core of everything from ecosystems, to human life, an to any opportunity for development.

Congratulations to Michael Steinle and his esteemed NJ TransAction Conference panel including Erin Hill, Nicole Campion Ochroch, Daniel Barone, PhD, GISP, CFM, and Russ Dudley, P.E., LEED AP for their enlightening conversation about challenges transportation agencies face in addressing climate mitigation and adaptation. Some key takeaways: the importance of public transit as a mitigation strategy, how mitigation efforts may add GHG (example was construction of flood wall to protect transit infrastructure), the need for education of the public on climate risk to reduce resistance to change, and the need for robust data to assess both current and future risk. #ClimateChange #NJTransAction2024 #Adaptation #Mitigation #Resiliency

1moWater is important both for climate change adaptation and mitigation. Water not only gets impacted due to climate change but also impacts changes in climate conditions thereby making mechanisms of adaptation and mitigation more complex with time if left unattended.
