Today, on International Women’s Day, we’re releasing Geej Ower’s award-winning short ‘Five Weeks’, a poignant portrayal of the challenges faced by new mothers. Using long takes, close angles and immersive sound, we see the usually mundane task of grocery shopping transformed into a scene from a horror movie of the protagonist’s own making. Made with a predominantly female crew and co-produced by Stink Films and MrMr, see the film’s online premiere exclusively on Short of the Week: https://lnkd.in/df2eTnDM

Some projects touch your heart and remind me of your brand purpose. WING Filmy Fridays’ debut short-film ‘Samaavesh’ is one such. Check it out on YouTube NOW!! #filmmakingworkshop #filmmakingworkshopk12 #creativitydevelopment #storytelling #schools #schoolworkshops #Imaginationnurturing #lightcameraaction #wing
Debuting on WING - World Imagination Nurturing Group Filmy Fridays is a short film called “Samaavesh”. The film addresses a sensitive and important topic of equality and inclusivity. Conceptualized, written, and directed by grade VI to XI students of Riverdale World School, Mahasamund, Samaavesh is special for many reasons. The most special being - it’s our first short film with a specially abled student, who played the lead character. That the final film warmed our hearts is an understatement. But here’s what touched us too - all students embraced and embodied the theme by devising innovative methods to ensure the “star” of the film could pour everything she had in her into her performance. A few weeks ago, we participated in the 72 Film Fest for our 6th year (and our 20th year participating in film races 😳 😁 ). Each year we try to challenge ourselves by trying something new. Whether it's a new piece of gear, a new actor, a new technique, a new genre, we always want to be growing and getting better with each short film we create. Our personal challenge this year: write a script that can be filmed 3 different ways with the same exact words. Then we took it even farther. We did 3 different time periods, 3 different color schemes, 3 different aspect ratios and 3 different prime lenses. Give it a watch and see if you can pick out how the script was manipulated for each different scene to be different even though the words are the same. 🕵♀️ Major props to our writer, Robin Farrell Link in comments

Content notices are a contentious area. Some see them as a duty of care that film exhibitors owe to their audience, while others say they're an unnecessary measure and can even be counterproductive. In our latest blog, the ICO’s Duncan Carson speaks to film professionals who have introduced content notices about their experience and what the benefits and challenges are, as well as looking at academic research in this area. 👁 "One eye sees, the other eye feels." - Paul Klee 👓 Ask 10 individuals to describe the same scene witnessed under identical conditions, and you'll receive ten distinct descriptions. Perhaps not drastically different, but certainly unique to each observer. 🎞 #Considerfilms: How many times is a film truly created? Firstly, in the director's imagination. Secondly, during actual production. Thirdly, in the minds of the audience. And with each subsequent viewing, it is remade anew. 🖌"Our #viewpoint is our #signature." 🤔 A viewpoint isn't merely a #style; it's what you have to say, not just how you say it. In this realm of #connection and #expression, you're not truly engaged unless you have something meaningful to convey. 🙌 Once you uncover what you want to express, every aspect of life becomes a potential wellspring of creative #inspiration.

This is such a powerful read. I'm so glad Michelle Memran brought it to my attention. "Perhaps it’s time to turn away from the independent film industrial complex and toward a community-based practice that engages audiences at the local level. Third Cinema has always focused on this approach, which is more relevant now than ever. Perhaps the mainstream independent cinema pipeline is no longer the most effective to amplify politically and socially challenging voices and visions. We need to activate audiences and communities who have been historically left out of the cinema space! The bourgeois leanings of circulation and exhibition practices rely upon logics of exceptionalism, consumerism and leisure that drain the vitality of film to integrate it into a pre-ordained value system. Impact is the industrial word for this, yet impact is often simply an add-on for films that still operate under traditional logics. Where are the spaces and what are the actions we can take to create a more sustainable ecosystem for films truly pushing the boundaries of this medium?" "A film is not just a film, it’s a cipher, a vortex, a prayer, a testimonial, a call to action, and all of these things have different situations that can allow them to bloom." —Keisha N Knight
