The first two projects have been selected for financing within Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology (WIN) & CEITEC - Central European Institute of Technology, Brno University of Technology (Vysoké učení technické v Brně) Joint Seed Funding Program 🤝 By supporting selected projects, this competitive program aims to foster interdisciplinary research between international partners for “high risk-high reward” blue-sky discoveries typically not supported by traditional granting agencies. 🚀 We are delighted to unveil the first two projects selected for support: 1. Hamed Shasavan, Martin Pumera: AI-Enhanced Microrobotics Systems for Drug Delivery 🤖💊 This interdisciplinary project investigates the use of artificial intelligence-enhanced microrobots for biomedicine. AI algorithms enhance navigation, manipulation, and real-time imaging by enabling adaptive decision-making and optimization, unlocking new possibilities in healthcare 🏥 2. Boxin Zhao, Lenka Michlovská: Bio-inspired injectable bone glue: synthesis, modification, and ex-vivo bone-to-bone adhesion testing 🦴🧬 The project aims to synthesize and modify thermosensitive polymer with natural bioadhesives and set the adhesion measurement methodology and procedure for the given type of material. Knowing the degree of adhesion is important in terms of ensuring proper fixation of bone fragments or bones and subsequent successful treatment of the fracture 🩹 Congratulations to both research teams, we wish you lots of success! 👏 #CEITECScience Dennis Wong Jozef Kaiser Pavel Pořízka #collaboration #supportingscience #brnoregion #czechrepublic

The European Innovation Council (EIC) has announced the selection of 27 projects from 16 EU Member States and Horizon Europe associated countries to receive grants of up to €2.5 million each. These projects were chosen among 257 eligible submissions in the EIC Transition funding program, which supports initiatives building on results from EIC Pathfinder, FET, and European Research Council Proof of Concept projects. The selected projects span various thematic areas, including Micro-Nano Bio devices, Environmental intelligence, and Chip-scale optical frequency combs. Examples of selected projects include QlibriNANO from Germany, COCOPOP from Ireland, and TREM2MEDS from Italy. These projects aim to develop innovative technologies with potential applications in nanoscale imaging, coherent communication, and neurodegenerative disease treatment. EIC Transition projects receive support for technology validation, market readiness, and access to business acceleration services. The next application deadline for EIC Transition projects is September 18, 2024. #EIC #EU #EICTransition #EuropeanInnovationCouncil #innovation #innovateeurope #europe https://lnkd.in/gtf-P9na

Highlighting recent #EICTransition winners! The EIC Transition funding scheme is designed to facilitate the transition of high-potential ideas from the research stage to the market. This funding mechanism primarily targets projects that have already demonstrated their scientific excellence in previously funded research projects. The scheme aims to bridge the gap between developing novel technologies and their commercial application, offering financial support to cover activities such as applied research, product development, and validation in real-world settings. At the September 2023 cut-off, the EIC received 257 proposals, of which 27 were recently awarded funding. We are thrilled to announce that 3 projects supported by Zaz Ventures are among the winners: The GAIA project, coordinated by Azalea Vision, will revolutionise eye care through smart contact lens technology based on graphene electronics and liquid crystal cells, providing adaptive, effective, non-invasive and accessible solutions for patients. The Welinq project, coordinated by Welinq, will develop solutions to interconnect quantum processors to drastically increase their computational power and make them quantum-accessible at a distance. The Coati-X project, coordinated by CMD-COAT SA, will work on developing bioactive coatings to prevent infection and thrombosis of catheters and other implantable medical devices. With investment in these projects, the European Commission is dedicating resources to advance the upcoming wave of #quantum, #communication, and #healthtech technologies. These innovations are crucial in securing European technological independence and promoting industrial revitalisation. Do you have a technology at TRL 3-4 that needs further development originating from a qualified research project? Are you planning a spin-out from a research lab? Grants of up to €2.5M are available to validate and demonstrate technology in application-relevant environments and develop market readiness. The next deadline will be on the 18th of September. Contact us today for more information!

It has been a pleasure to be part of The Graphene Flagship together with expert partners from all over EU. Our group at Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2) has been advancing the research and application of 2D materials in several innovative, advantageous and sustainable biosensing platforms for various applications with interest for health, environment and other industries. Our patented technology on patterning exfoliated graphene for electronic/biosensing applications is now being further explored and extended by our spinoff company Graphenicalab S.L. The excellence research and expertise gained during these years led to granting this year of a new Horizon Europe project #2dbiopad that aims to push forward graphene-based biosensors toward developing of a fast, reliable, cost-effective and digitally enabled point-of-care in vitro diagnostic system for early Alzheimer's disease detection. #graphene #2D materials #graphenebiosensors #diagnostics Merkoçi Research Group #icn2

Check out some great new data presented by Ricoh Biomedical using iPSC-derived GABAergic Neurons, and see if it can help with your research needs!
🔬 Exciting News from Ricoh Biomedical! 🎉 We're thrilled to share our exciting, new research presented at the 2023 SPS Annual Meeting in Brussels, Belgium. 📜 Poster Title: "Establishment of High-Throughput Toxicity Assay System with iPSC-derived GABAergic Neurons Generated by a Rapid Differentiation Method" 🎯 Our Goal: To test the efficacy of Quick-Neuron™ iPSC-derived GABAergic Neurons in high-throughput toxicity assays using Ca² imaging. 🔍 Key Findings: • Our Quick-Neuron™ iPSC-derived GABAergic neurons showed expected responses to seizurogenic compounds, particularly when co-cultured with iPSC-derived astrocytes, suggesting a high level of physiological relevance and reliability in the assay system. • Calcium imaging allowed us to monitor neuronal activity in real-time, providing a dynamic view of how our neurons responded to toxic substances. This technique complements traditional electrophysiological methods and offers another layer of data for your toxicity assessment. • Our system is compatible with 384-well plates, making it highly adaptable for high-throughput screening (HTS) assays, offering scalability for screening a large number of compounds in a time-efficient manner. The high-throughput nature of this system can accelerate the drug discovery and development process, allowing for quicker identification of safe and effective compounds. 📚 Learn More: Visit our website for more in-depth information: https://lnkd.in/eeDRT2GH #SPS2023 #ElixirgenScientific #RicohBiomedical #Biotechnology
