I did something that I’ve never done on the podcast before 😳 The one and only Wim Hof is today’s guest on the podcast. Wim is a Dutch extreme sports athlete, multiple Guinness World Record holder and daredevil, who is commonly nicknamed ‘The Iceman’ for his ability to withstand extreme cold. He is also the author of the best-selling book, ‘The Wim Hof Method’. In this conversation, Wim and I discuss topics such as: - How the cold helps you uncover your true self. - How ice baths fixed his trauma. - Three techniques to help you breath right. - The trauma he experienced from his wife’s death. & so much more! I’ll be honest with you, I really don’t like the cold. But to get into Wim’s world, my team organised for the both of us to get into ice baths in our studio during our conversation. This was way out of my comfort zone but after doing six minutes in the bath, wow I have such admiration and respect for Wim. I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did! And let me know if you’re an ice bather / tempted to try one after listening?! I’m intrigued 👇🏽 Hit the link to watch the full episode now 👉 https://g2ul0.app.link/wim

Cold was my biggest fear before I went on a Wim Hof Retreat in Norway last year. The Way of the Iceman is one of the most impactful books I have read in a long time and I was interested in the benefits of cold water, particularly in the management of my arthritis symptoms which have got progressively worse in my femur since my compound (i.e. it snapped in half and broke the skin) break in a car accident at 11. Guided by three of the most successful (and impressive) WHM instructors including a former professional snowboarder, we climbed 2.5 hours in -18 in minimal clothing to a a peak in Norway. It is as much about mindset as it is about the cold. I am 100% converted. My symptoms and heart rate decreased within a week. Wim is an interesting character but the science doesn't lie.

The problem is that as a society, we are switching off too much and not resting recharging enough. Switching off with alcohol, phones, reels, web series, movies or anything else switches your mind off. You have not dealt with the problem you have just distracted yourself away from it. Similar to taking a painkiller. It just makes the pain go away for some time. It does not fix the cause of pain. And that's why a lot of people are suffering from mental health issues. You can rely on coping mechanisms if you want to survive life, but you do need solutions if you want to thrive.

This is an outstanding episode and shows how the world is poisoning us - and how we either let it or defeat it. If we defeat it then we not only survive but become stronger. The brain is our most powerful asset. We need to learn to use it much better than we do. Our mindset needs to evolve quickly. It’s now time for revolution not evolution. This is why we focus on Applied Critical Thinking - ACT - the essential skill for todays complex world, and also the skill most lacking. Go figure! So train your brain like you train your body at the gym, and the results will blow your mind. Ready to change your mindset? Ready to unleash your true potential?

Every experience we go through in life is designed to build and mould us. The more painful and traumatic the experience, the more of character we build if we choose to get up from that helplessness. The human mind and body can do the most extreme things, we who haven't experienced it yet are still within our comfort zone. Those who dare to step out may shudder and go back but when life hits you with those grenades, you would be forced to gather your ashes to yourself and rise like Phoenix. In that moment, you become a legend. We all can't do ice baths and go to Everest in our underwear but we can push ourselves a little out of our comfort zone everyday for that is the only path to greatness. Stand!

We have so much capability built within us - knowing how to start tapping into it is an amazing experience. Science is only just starting to prove and catch up with what many cultures have known for centuries. One of my workshops is called "What they should have taught you at school about how the mind works but didn't". It's a small step to helping others unlock and discover more of their capabilities.

Ice baths are always a topic of debate. They aren't a must do, many successful people don't use them BUT... Personally, I feel a big benefit from them. Recovery is just part of this. The main ones for me are: - Empty mind when in there as i need to focus on breathing - Building discipline as i never want to do them - Reduces procrastination as the voice in your head quiets down when you consistently do things you don't want to.

Wim! I almost died a few years ago from a dangerous pharmaceutical. I felt like I was dying every day for 2.5 years. During my hardcore regimented recovery I was forced to wait in line outside of the DMV in the freezing cold for 45 minutes due to covid restrictions. I didn't think i was going to survive the cold. And then a funny thing happened. I felt really good that afternoon. All my symptoms were better. It's because the cold had brought down all the inflammation down throughout my body. So I started to go outside in 10 degree weather in shorts for 10 minutes. Extreme cold was a crucial part in my healing form a drug induced toxic illness that many don't recover from. Try it!

I’ve been cold water swimming for 6 months and now I couldn’t do without it as a regular part of my self-care. The first minute in the water is a such a lesson in controlling the emotions and impulses, settling the mind. Overcoming the initial discomfort in cold water is a valuable tool for managing stresses in everyday life. And the hit of dopamine afterwards!! 🤩
