Since establishing the gender budget, the government has divided it into two main sections: Part A, which includes schemes exclusively for women's benefit, and Part B, which encompasses schemes with at least 30% of the budget allocated to women. This year, they introduced Part C, covering schemes with less than 30% allocation for women, with the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) being the sole scheme in this section. In summary, 34% of the gender budget is allocated to fully targeted schemes (Part A), 61% to partially targeted schemes (Part B), and 5% to schemes under Part C. This is definitely progress although more progress needs to be made. I find it interesting that they compare black and Asian women with their male counterparts vs measuring them against white males. Until we all have equality against white men, there is no equality. #genderequity #payequity #paygap

With a new government in place, Labour has an opportunity to make meaningful improvements when it comes to issues affecting women. We don't yet know what the Autumn budget will bring but would like to see some specific measures to improve the gender pensions gap, and reduce barriers to entrepreneurship. With the potential of tax rises too, it's a good time to take stock of personal finances and consider if there are any opportunities in the meantime to make the most of the current rules.

There is undoubtedly more support needed for female entrepreneurs and business owners, with societal bias and less access to funding being some of the key challenges faced by women in business. Read our thoughts on the areas Labour should focus on if they are to support change for women.
