As part of the Rubik Scale to USA 🇺🇸 2024 cohort, Mihai GAVAN joined our USA immersion trip. Here’s his perspective on the experience:
💬 “Mentorship played a pivotal role in our growth. 🚀 Some of the mentors we had became our investors and others helped us better understand our business model and the goals to focus on to grow and be relevant for Western VCs. The program has significantly influenced our vision, reinforcing our commitment to growth and expansion in the USA market while setting clear goals for the future.”

Happy Monday, Pillgrims! Dose 119 is fresh off the press.
This week’s dose included healthy comfort food, flipping houses, and a newsletter platform.
Here’s the breakdown:
1. WILDE CHIPS raised $20M in funding led by KarpReilly, LLC, including participation from Machine Gun Kelly, Jack Harlow, and Koia.
With their delicious and nutritious crisps made from chicken breast, egg whites, and bone broth, the startup is on a mission to prove that comfort food doesn’t necessarily need to be junk food.
2. Backflip landed a $15M Series A led by FirstMark, joined by Vertical Venture Partners, LiveOak Ventures, Revel Partners and more.
The all-in-one real estate and financial technology platform helps make the house-flipping process less complicated for real estate investors.
3. beehiiv announced a $34M Series B led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA), including participation from Sapphire Sport and Lightspeed.
Created by early members of the Morning Brew team, the platform helps individuals and companies launch, scale, and monetize their newsletter.
That's a wrap for this week’s dose! Thanks for listening and please like/share this post to help spread the good word about these innovative startups.

Got featured in a VoyageLA article and it's pretty cool to see our startup journey with Sam Nadler get some spotlight.

Today is a #TBT day and who doesn't love chocolate? Our most memorable campaign featured chocolate shaped like Hable.
Why that campaign? We had just entered a partnership to produce the Hables. The production timeline ranges from 9 to 12 months—if all goes smoothly.
Thanks to our partners, we achieved our goal in 10 months. 🚀
However, the journey wasn't all smooth sailing. Securing a partner required funding. We approached several investors who demanded proof of potential success.
Back then, predicting our future success was like wishing for a crystal ball. The only tangible evidence we could offer was pre-sales. For our target audience, platforms like Kickstarter weren't effective.
We needed to convince 100 customers to pre-pay before we could even begin production.
Reflecting on it, this was undoubtedly our most significant validation.
The chocolate campaign gave us something tangible to offer while the product was in production, rallying over 500 friends and family members around us.
This support meant everything.
We're grateful for our incredible community and customers!

Happy New Year everyone 🎉
When I started Cellar Rats the consumer startup market was bottoming out (especially post the Covid boom). A few people advised me to wait a couple of years and then try then. My response to them was this:
Which consumer company is more likely to succeed long term A) A company founded during an artificial boom (Covid) with excess funding or B) A company started during a downturn and cost of living crisis. For me the answer would always be B.
(See also the 2008 crisis which also created a wave of successful consumer brands: Airbnb, Uber, Instagram)
Cellar Rats has not only managed to survive but surpassed all expectations in terms of growth (See chart). Our biggest challenge is not being ambitious enough in our forecasts creating temporary stock and cashflow issues.
With the markets predicting multiple interesting rate drops next year, investing in startups should be one of the better investments (Especially with SEIS/EIS). You can see the momentum for consumer picking back up in the Valley from tech leaders.
With this I'm happy to announce the opening of our Seed round. First come first serve. Small amount of SEIS available. Please DM me for details.
In the hundreds of founder conversations I've had in the past year, I've noticed a trend in Michigan that I hadn't seen (or maybe noticed?) before. Many founders are building with social impact at the core of their company.
Take Katy Kelly for example. She's building a high growth startup in TRS that can serve a huge market. The product focuses on helping citizens better adjust when returning from prison, ultimately reducing recidivism while creating safer and more equitable communities.
Or look at Kim Gaston at Chewbox Inc. Kim is building a platform to deliver meals to large facilities effectively and at scale - akin to DoorDash, but more efficient. Their ultimate goal? Bring restaurant-quality meals to food deserts around the country so everyone can eat high quality food at an affordable price.
Or Jamie Kramer at Earthly After, whose platform helps with After Death Care, and ALSO has a goal of preserving over 1 million acres of forestland.
Or Vanessa Lane at BetterPlay Studios, Inc., whose gaming platform, KOZEE, uses the power of video games to improve your mental health. Beyond gaming, KOZEE also allows users to connect with mental health professionals.
There's more. So many more. I love this trend and honestly think it's a go-to-market motion we should see more of.

CEO & Founder- TRS(Total Reentry Solution) Passionate Reentry Advocate. Finding your passion is the most powerful thing you can do to change your life.
🌟🌟 🚀
On some real shit– Jermaine's time on parole was the hardest most excruciating battle our family has or will ever face, and it hit us out of no where- we thought him paroling meant we were in the clear.
Out of those trials, Total Reentry Solutions emerged, not just a platform but a framework rooted in health and wellness to redefine reentry for the world. 🌱✨
Our mission is bold: Smash the chains of intergenerational incarceration, transform lives, and carve a path to full well-being. TRS tackles the real deal – Social Determinants of Health (SDOH), chronic conditions, and connected care teams for each fam. 🌍💪
We are building a powerhouse designed to empower justice-impacted individuals, with personalized plans based on individual goals, and a tight-knit trusted care team. Daily action steps and wellness tools give them control, owning their journey and making a real impact in their lives and their communities. 🌈💙
This journey has been a wild ride, but our social mission- our passion keeps us going. TRS isn't just a startup; it's a movement to revolutionize reentry, break generational curses, and uplift communities. 🔗🌈
