Investors are open to bandwagon jumpers, but they’re looking for startups with defensible moats and qualified teams that can become market leaders. So, when should founders ignore the hype, and when should they follow the crowd? Last month at TechCrunch Disrupt, this was one of the first questions I asked Sophia Amoruso, Katelin Holloway and Sarah Kunst during our panel. TL;DR It’s OK for a founder to jump into an emerging hype cycle, but only if they have a genuine interest in that area that reaches back in time. (This recap is paywalled, but if you're serious about building a startup, you can definitely cover the cost of a TC subscription.)

I recently read an article by Paul Graham, the co-founder of Y Combinator, one of the most influential startup accelerators in the world. In the article, he shares what he looks for in founders, and what qualities make them successful. He identifies five main qualities: determination, flexibility, imagination, naughtiness and friendship. I found his article very insightful and inspiring, and I wanted to share my thoughts on it. The link to the main article: https://lnkd.in/dqJZXj_7 Thank you,Shravan Tickoo, for sharing this. #productmanagement

We had a 92% drop-out rate. From a free course. And we were over the moon! "A free startup accelerator for solo founders? You must be mad", they said! At Underdog Accelerator we believe that everyone has the potential to be world class at something. But you need to put in the work. Just sitting back and watching a course will get you exactly nowhere. That's why we ask you to Pay by Action. If you don't complete your weekly assignments, you don't progress to the next module. It's harsh, but it's fair. And it's in your best interests as a founder. We are big fans of #buildinpublic and full transparency. So here's a rundown of the good, the bad, and the ugly. ------------ Applications for Cohort 2 close on 1st October. Learn more and apply here: UnderdogAccelerator.com

As the first event that I joined this year, MyidEA's Venture Accel Kick-Off, reminded me of why these gatherings are so nice. If you haven't been there and wondered what you've missed, let me tell you: a very good vibe and encouraging forecasts about 2024. Here are some random facts that stayed with me: - founders should not choose angel investors only for their money, but also for their experience - as a founder, you need to take care of your investors' time and money - AI is still a thing, but do we really know how to use it? - cost efficiency is THE approach for this year - VCs still have money for investing and there are many good startups to invest in, so we're still on track Thank you to everyone who shared their insights with me and answered my many questions! 🙌 The Recursive #community #startupecosystem #journalism
