I learned about the #DigitalShelf and why it’s important to the CPG Experience. My tutor was Mert Damlapinar, and you can listen.
Mert explains how digital experiences are at the forefront of today’s retail #experience, and how #CPGbrands need to transform their thinking from a physical world paradigm. He’s a well known expert in the field of e-commerce and digital marketing: an author, a former director of brands like L’Oreal, Mondelez, Sabra.
Mert shared his insights into how the Digital Shelf has evolved - from the “Long Tail” concept of merchandising everything to now - with a low number of featured items that seem to perfectly match your search. Behind the scenes is an incredibly complex system of algorithms that make up the Digital Platform Strategy.
As the majority of purchase decisions are made online, CPG vendors need to understand this rapid shift. Mert explains the three pillars of the Digital Shelf, and the skills needed to harness it.

There was such rich learning from this mornings session at the National Retail Federation on ‘What's in Store for Retail Media Networks’.
The physical bricks and mortar store is the epicenter of the moment of truth/choice. Globally the physical store still accounts for 80-90% of cpg purchases.
If you answered ‘yes’ to the questions above, then really familiarizing yourself as a brand owner or retailer to the opportunity that retail media offers is key because retail media is already providing the support tools to deliver the ‘yes’ to all of the above.
