Trucking almost ate me alive👀 I have been fortunate enough to have owned multiple successful businesses but I have never owned a company so fragile as trucking. What do I mean by fragile? Transportation is highly contingent on your control of the numbers. You have a business with high cash flow and high overhead. As a business owner, you are bound to have a failed company if you don't understand a few components. Here are a few things I've learned quickly as a fleet owner: 1. Know and fall in love with your company's run rate and operational cost. This is a fluid number and fluctuates which provides you with your "floor". 2. Preventative leadership. Not only preventative maintenance but preventative leadership. Hire a slow-fire-fast mentality. As a fleet owner, I am never in a rush to fill the driver seat, because I've learned that it will cost me more in the end.
