Crevice corrosion, a formidable challenge to stainless steel, arises in confined spaces or gaps where stagnant conditions prevail. This insidious form of corrosion often finds a foothold in areas with joints, gaskets, or overlapping surfaces, creating environments conducive to corrosion initiation. Characteristics Distinguished by its occurrence in crevices, crevice corrosion manifests as a localized attack, targeting specific areas where stagnant water or corrosive agents accumulate. The corrosion process may go unnoticed initially, posing a risk to the material's integrity without overt signs on the surface. Rapid Progression Crevice corrosion can progress swiftly, propelled by the restricted flow of oxygen within confined spaces. The depletion of oxygen disrupts the formation of the passive oxide layer on stainless steel surfaces, accelerating the corrosion process and compromising the material's strength over time. #CreviceCorrosion #MaterialIntegrity #StainlessSteelProblems #Corrosion #Stainless_Steel #StainlessSteel #Krogman #KrogmanStainless #KrogmanMetals #YourPartnerInInox

Slewing bearing plays a very major role in applications which needs SLOW rotation with heavy to very heavy loads. Did you wonder if ONE single mounting bolt is missed out without proper tightening or insufficient torque will lead to a big failure like bearing crack due to Crevice corrosion. This failure case is while conducting a Pitch Bearing crack analysis. Crevice corrosion is a localized form of corrosion and usually results from a stagnant microenvironment in which there is a difference in the concentration of ions between two areas of a metal. - Crevice corrosion occurs in shielded areas such as those under washers, bolt heads, gaskets, etc. where oxygen is restricted. - These smaller areas allow for a corrosive agent to enter but do not allow enough circulation within, depleting the oxygen content, which prevents re-passivation. As a stagnant solution builds, pH shifts away from neutral. - This growing imbalance between the crevice (microenvironment) and the external surface (bulk environment) contributes to higher rates of corrosion. Thanks Jefy jean for your contribution. #bearings #bearingfailureanalysis #rcfa #inspection #reliability #maintenance #slewingbearing #corrosion #lubrication #trusttheexperts

How to Protect Flanges from External Corrosion Exposure to offshore salt spray, general weathering and chemical contact can all impact flanged connections. When bolts and flanges are made of dissimilar metals, corrosion can develop and spread even faster. Belzona 3412, a liquid-applied, moisture-curing membrane system, can protect flanges from corrosion for the long term. Unlike conventional paints, it offers excellent edge retention and film build around complex geometries. Bolts can be easily accessed by cutting and peeling the membrane (when Belzona 8411 release agent/corrosion inhibitor is also applied as part of the system). The system can then be resealed again to protect flanges from corrosion. The system can be brush- or spray-applied. Let’s look at the spray application. https://hubs.ly/Q01V8mly0 #flange #cui #inspectable #peelable #atmospheric #encapsulation #epoxy #erosion #corrosion #impact #abrasion #repair #protect #improve #belzonait #belzonatnw

Scot-475 Salt Bath for Rotary Furnace. DESCRIPTION: The most commonly used furnace in the secondary aluminium industry is the rotary furnace where aluminium scrap is melted under a layer of salt which consists of a mixture of chlorides and cryolites. There are various possible combinations of this salt flux. However after several trials and customers feedbacks, Flux 475 has proved to be the best combination for Aluminium melting in Rotary furnace. ADVANTAGES: 1. Flux 475 enhances the heat transfer to the metal. 2. It prevents the oxidation of the metal. 3. The salt takes up contaminants, such as oxides, carbides and others contained in the scrap or produced by reactions during the melting process. 4. Homogenous mixture for the alloy is achieved. 5. Helps in cleaning, covering as well as drossing of molten aluminium. 6. Higher metal recovery. 7. Lower energy cost. APPLICATION PROCESS: The amount of salt used for the melting process depends on the scrap characteristics and varies in a range of 3-15% of the aluminium scrap charge. First, the salt is melted down in the rotary furnace. Next the scrap is charged into the salt bath. After the metal is molten it is tapped and the salt slag is cast into steel moulds where it cools down. The advantage of the rotary furnace is that even highly contaminated scrap can be handled. #Scot475 #Foundryflux #aluminiumalloy #rotaryfurnace #saltbath #Secondaryaluminiumalloy #aluminium #melting #drossmelting SCOTTISH CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES
