The Agrivoltaics Research and Demonstration Act of 2023 would support research and demonstrate how agrivoltaic systems can best meet the needs of farmers using different production systems, as well as how they can complement other USDA programs. The bill has bipartisan support and was introduced by Senators Heinrich (D-NM) and Braun (R-IN). They both recognize the important role that agrivoltaics — simultaneous use of land for agricultural production and solar energy generation — plays in supporting both farmer incomes and renewable energy concerns. Today the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero published, amongst other documents such as the Biomass Strategy, a paper on 'The ability of BECCS to generate negative emissions'. A key sentence from the report: "The T&F group concluded that they had not identified any significant and insurmountable scientific barriers to the permanent removal of CO2 from the atmosphere via BECCS with sustainable supply chains when well-regulated." With the right policy framework that ensures the sustainability of the biomass and the permanence of geological storage, BECCS can be part of the scaling of the CDR market.
