Many seek alternative schedules, aiming for less than 40 hours while still maintaining full-time status. How can we bridge this gap effectively? Innovative solutions for nurses must be embedded within existing workflows. Since founding M7, I’ve met dozens of other entrepreneurs with innovative solutions to support the nursing workforce. Most of these founders are building apps and software. And most, if not all, of their ideas have great merit. However, I have found that too often, these founders have overlooked the element of distribution. Nurses already have endless tasks to complete during their shifts and dozens of disparate tools - both digital and analogue - to do our jobs appropriately. With that in mind, I often wonder how founders plan to incentivize a nurse to take the time to log in to yet another app. At what point during a nurse’s shift will she find this tool valuable enough to log into another system instead of proceeding with the status quo? At M7 Health, we intentionally started with the schedule – something all of us nurses care a LOT about and have to engage with regularly. It is a lever of control that we have over our work-life balance. It also gives us “mission critical” information, such as when and where we are expected to work. Setting up and monitoring a nursing schedule is a core habit. Everything we’ve built here at M7 is based on our core scheduling capabilities because that’s where the captive user base engages. Some call this habit stacking. Long story short, if you are building new tech, make sure you are stacking your tech on top of a core workflow in a very easy way to adopt. #changemanagement #technologyadoption #nursingtechnology
