“The June decline in temporary help services employment continues the trend observed over the past 24 months, with many employers focused on cost cutting and pausing or delaying projects,” said Staffing Industry Analysts Vice President of Research Timothy Landhuis. “As there are multiple factors causing the drop in temp staffing, SIA has recently published a concise report (“Insights on the Recent Downturn in US Temporary Staffing 2024”) that explains the current headwinds, and also shares our reasons for optimism that temp staffing will eventually show signs of recovery.” Full briefing: https://lnkd.in/g9pgM7hF Analysts: Michael Schultz and Timothy Landhuis #BLS #labormarket #economy #staffing #jobs #employment #research

The latest JobsOutlook was released by the REC today and surprisingly it indicated a minor decrease in confidence for businesses investing in to their operations reversing a year long trend of gently improving confidence from employers. Data suggests this may be a "blip" which is supported by the REC's own view that confidence is strengthening again as inflation falls. As expected, given the uncertainty, hiring intentions for temporary workers in the short term increased. When assessed as a full quarter, December 23 - February 24, sentiment towards short term permanent hiring was flat but there was a notable uptick in February. #recruiment #staffing #businessconfidence

Another insightful piece by Lauren Weber of The Wall Street Journal. The proliferation of employment mechanisms is making it harder and harder to construct reliable longitudinal data. One development which may distort the figures is the growth of staffing leaders, like Randstad and Manpower, into more full service talent providers. They are now broad-service, employment solutions companies. More and more large companies are moving from a stance of "I have an opening...I'll call an agency to fill it while I get my internal hiring process fired up" to "I'll call my employment solutions vendor to fill the position." That may be suppressing the temp numbers due to those vendors meeting customer needs through full-time placements and other means. #gigeconomy #temps #managingthefutureofwork
