Great news for the S-bane in Copenhagen! Siemens Mobility will upgrade the signaling for it´s entire network. #Copenhagen's S-bane system plays a crucial role in the city's public transportation network, serving around 350,000 daily commuters. This number is steadily increasing as the metropolitan area around the #Danish capital expands - housing over one fifth of #Denmark's population. Upgrading the network to support unattended train operations will effectively cater to this growing trend! 👏 #TransformTheEveryday
All eyes on Copenhagen 👀 🇩🇰 🚄 Imagine a city where trains operate seamlessly, autonomously, and with unmatched efficiency. In collaboration with Banedanmark and DSB, we're upgrading the entire Copenhagen S-bane network to the highest level of automation (GoA4) by 2033. This entails transforming 170km network into one of the world's largest and one of the fastest fully automatic urban railways. Key highlights include: 🚥 Upgrading signaling across the entire 170km S-bane network, ensuring more efficient journeys for passengers. 🚄 Delivery of state-of-the-art onboard equipment for 226 new trains, enhancing comfort and reliability for commuters. ⏱️ Complete automation of operations by 2033, leading to smoother operations and improved punctuality. Innovation Meets Sustainability with Dual-Mode Locomotives! 🚆🌿 Even in challenging times, private freight railway operators have invested in dual-mode locomotives, becoming pioneers of innovation. According to DieGueterbahnen (association of the private rail freight operators in Germany), this saves 500,000 liters of diesel every day – equivalent to the daily consumption of 2,500 trucks. With only 61% of rail tracks in Germany electrified, the EuroDual and Euro9500 locomotives, as versatile 'dual-operators’, are indispensable for eco-friendly logistics. They replace pure diesel locomotives, reduce energy costs, and improve the carbon footprint – every liter of diesel not burned saves 2.65 kg of CO2! 🤲 The impressive performance of the EuroDual and Euro9500, even away from overhead lines, increases efficiency on the rails and network capacity. Even heavy freight trains can directly access ports, revolutionizing last-mile logistics. European Loc Pool is proud to offer the EuroDual and Euro9500 as a full-service lease. With over 70 locomotives already operating in the European rail network and more than 100 long-term full-service leasing contracts signed, we are setting new standards in the industry. European Loc Pool “Passion for Traction“ #Transport #Innovation #Sustainability #Climate #Rail Thanks to DIE GÜTERBAHNEN for the initiative.

Kevin Speed: a viable high speed rail business model? During our latest knowledge sharing session, the spotlight was on the new railway operator Kevin Speed. Founded in 2021, the French company aspires to connect Paris with key cities like Lille, Strasbourg, and Lyon via three high-speed lines by 2028, marking a significant milestone with the acquisition of rail slots in March 2024. Kevin Speed's proposition resembles the "low-cost" model prevalent in the airline sector. The service specifically targets the "navetteurs", individuals who work in major cities but choose to reside outside for a better quality of life. The proposed service aims to offer these commuters a convenient, frequent, and affordable high-speed travel experience, effectively reducing fuel costs and simplifying their daily journeys. The sustainability of Kevin Speed's business plan is based on the optimisation of resources through economies of scale. This includes strategies like maximizing seating capacity, as well as train circulation, with short stops. Kevin Speed plans to purchase specific trains to support this strategy. While the concept promises to fill a gap in the market and could potentially capture the interest of commuters, uncertainties remain. Will the projected demand materialize to sustain the business? Moreover, can Kevin Speed overcome the intricate technical challenges inherent in railway operations? Can Kevin Speed get their share of market versus historical operators potentially adapting their offer? Please get in touch with our team if you wish to discuss or get advice on this exciting new area of development. The #mobility ecosystem is "on the move" these days - with new forms of mobility and supporting technology & infrastructure emerging. Given what we are facing in Europe today, everyday, it is about time: - Right now - as I write this post - congestion & traffic jams of 390 km are plaguing millions in my home region North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - not yet counting the many clogged arterial roads inside the cities - Our streets, bridges and railways are aging - in light of a massive investment gap in mobility infrastructure - There is spatial inequality - access to public, environmentally friendly forms of mobility is not a given in many areas - Inside our cities, competition for space is raging between modes (cars, public transport, micromobility, pedestrians, ...) Clearly, we need to further advance the way we move people & goods alike - with more accessible, more sustainable, and more efficient modes of transport and with adequate transport infrastructure in our cities and regions. With an evolving #mobility ecosystem come shifts and opportunities for the public and private sector. That's why I am excited about the launch of the Kearney Center for Advanced Mobility, which bundles our expertise in this field. We have come a long way since the formation of our Transportation Practice in the 1940s - one of the oldest industry practices in the firm.
