This week brings more adventures as I continue to serve in this nonprofit role. There is something indescribable that happens when our team comes together, whether virtually or physically. It is all about the faith, humility, and heart posture of each individual person. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Romans 1:11-12 captures this as closely as words are able: ESV: For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. TPT: I yearn to come and be face-to-face with you and get to know you. For I long to impart to you some spiritual gift that will empower you to stand strong in your faith. Now, this means that when we come together and are side by side, something wonderful will be released. We can expect to be co-encouraged and co-comforted by each other’s faith! What does your team do for and with each other? How much co-creating is there vs. competing? What is the alignment to the mission? Are there servant leaders building and growing the team members? Do you become encouraged? Do you encourage others? #cultureoflife #lovefirst #encourageoneanother #getyourdream #changemakers #dogoodwork #shineyourlight
February tends to coin itself as “the month of love”. We thought because of that, we would give you a reminder to spread the love! We have LOVE in our name, because we KNOW that love unites... and we are in the business of unity here at ProLove Ministries. “And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” - Colossians 3:14

Wow Black History Month and Reggae Month in one - cultural and history overload! Many people ask why we have to celebrate black history. Quick answer - because no one else is and everyone needs to have their story told. It's the same thing with reggae. I come from a small nation that punches way above its weight and a lot of our punch comes from our music. This month I want to stretch my thinking and learn some lessons from popular reggae songs and some history. I am not sure that I have a whole month in me but let's see how far we go....... Day One! No Woman nuh Cry by Reggae Legend the late Robert Nesta Marley. At long last we are paying attention to mental wellness. According to the National Library of Medicine "It is increasingly being recognized that the mental health of employees is a crucial determinant in their overall health and that poor mental health and stressors at the workplace can be a contributory factor to a range of physical illnesses like hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular conditions, amongst others. In addition, poor mental health can also lead to burn-out amongst employees, seriously affecting their ability to contribute meaningfully in both their personal and professional lives". So how is mental wellness at your workplace? Are the women (and men) crying out for help? Do you have facilities in place to support them? Do they know about these resources? Can they use them without being shamed? Do your leaders know how to recognise when people are crying out for help? Where do you score on this list and what do you need to do?

This weekend I spent a lot of time in thought. Had some deep conversations with people I respect around our society, and things that have been "getting in the way" of us progressing, and building better communities. How we seem to have lost the art of being okay with making mistakes, or having imperfections in our lives, and how seeing them in others makes us instantly close our minds. How we don't take the time to assume that maybe someone doesn't have malicious intent. How we often fail to use our curiosity and listening skills to look beyond our own biases. We live in an age of assumptions. We forget we all have a story for how we got to where we are in our lives, and there are moments, even those viewed as failure, or not being 100% perfect, that should be reason to listen and try to understand. I happened upon (thank you algorithms for choosing it) Jeremy Renner's Brooks commmercial: https://lnkd.in/djbkU483. (Note this could be triggering for some of you). While it is acting, and there is money & privilege involved in what got him where he is there is the celebration of spirit and hope. Triumph in a place where you may not have expected it. In the video he says " the only power we have as human beings is our perspective, and to be able to change it". This hits home for me following my conversations. I am asking my community to shift and look for new perspectives. Open your mind to focus less on what isn't there, but instead on what could be there if you stop, listen and think. I have hope. I want better for all. I want a truly inclusive society. One in which we look at each other with compassion and suspend judgement. Where despite what our eyes tell us, or our assumptions and biases lead us to see we can see the possibility in imperfection. That as potentially "failed" humans we all have a story to tell that holds value and will only enrich other by them taking the time to listen. That sometimes people aren't looking to bring you down, but rather need you to tell them how they can lift you up, and you feel safe in saying it. #buildingbettercommunities #lookbeyond #createallies #safespaceforeveryone
