SHREC starting work for 4th mission experiment on ISS The NSF Center for Space, High-performance, and Resilient Computing (SHREC) is the leading academic research center in the US on topics related to mission-critical space computing and systems. Established in 2017, SHREC consists of four major universities (University of Pittsburgh as lead, Brigham Young University, University of Florida, and Virginia Tech) and about 30 government and industry partners. Along with basic and applied research, the other major focus of SHREC is workforce development, where dozens of US graduate students are annually educated and trained via SHREC funds to support the US space community. SHREC students and faculty have led three space mission experiments on ISS, thanks to the support of SHREC members and the Space Test Program (STP) run by DoD and NASA. These experiments include STP-H5-CSP (2017-19), STP-H6-SSIVP (2019-21), and STP-H7-CASPR (2021-present). These systems were designed and built by SHREC, deployed by STP, and operated from the SHREC ground station at Pitt. SHREC is now proposing a fourth mission experiment for STP-H12 with launch to ISS anticipated in a few years. #shrec #space #research #engineering #education

We are working on two main missions and goals nowadays. 🤩 First, we are excited about mission CIMER, which is a collaborative effort between our team and MENDELU University, with a mission focused on investigating the potential benefits of desiccative hibernation for cultivating biological substances in space. 🌱This study aims to generate valuable data for extraterrestrial colonization, particularly in terms of oxygen generation and food cultivation. 🍍🍅 The experiment involves testing a bio-container and subsequent systems that could be further developed for future bio-missions. 🚀 Our team is responsible for spacecraft design and operations, while MENDELU University handles payload development and experiment evaluation. However, the most significant aspect is the actual development process, which provides us with invaluable learning opportunities. This 3U mission was selected by the @europeanspaceagency (ESA) during a concurrent engineering workshop, where we had the opportunity to present our idea and receive valuable feedback from ESA experts.

The VI International scientific and technical conference "Non-Rocket Near Space Industrialization: Problems, Ideas, Projects" will be held on October 7-8. This year's event will be timed to coincide with the UN World Space Week. We will discuss with scientists, engineers and researchers from various countries the non-rocket space technologies that can provide industrialization of near space, talk about progress in related fields of science and technology, as well as social and philosophical problems of mankind. I believe that only together we will be able to convey to the public the necessity of transition to the biosphere and space path of civilizational development in the logic "Earth is for life. Continued amazing efforts in cislunar space by University of Arizona Professors Roberto Furfaro and Vishnu Reddy, and their amazing team of dedicated faculty and graduate students, including Grace Halferty, Tanner Campbell, and Adam Battle, at Arizona's Space 4 Center and the Space Systems Engineering Laboratory! The list of what they have tracked and characterized continues to grow. Their demonstrated ability to find, track, and characterize objects in cislunar space is profound in and of itself. However, the greater implication is the critical impact their work has on our national security today and for decades to come. This month, researchers from the University of Brighton are set to run zero-gravity flights to put ground-breaking experimental devices through their paces. The two teams, including six students from participating universities, have just 20 seconds at a time to run tasks in weightless conditions. During each flight, the plane is set to climb to an altitude of 7,500m before going into a 3,000m high roller coaster climb and fall, during which weightlessness is experienced for about 20 seconds. This will be repeated 30 times on each of the three planned parabolic flights later this week. One of the teams is part of the DEPLOY! project, a collaboration between the universities of Brighton, Pisa (Università di Pisa) and Parma (Università degli Studi di Parma) and funded by the UK Space Agency and the European Space Agency - ESA Academy Experiments Programme, which provides funding and support for university students to develop their research in the fields of space science and technology.
