📊45 million tracks on streaming platforms didn’t receive a single play last year. Your music faces an epic battle just to be heard. So what do you do as an artist? 🎵You make "stream-friendly" music over a unique artistic expression. With 120,000 new tracks uploaded daily to streaming platforms how else are you going to be heard? 🤖Plus a significant portion of these tracks are AI-generated. Thats an even bigger splash in an already overflowing pool. What's the solution? Could niche streaming services or refined algorithms be the answer? 💡Let’s start a conversation on how we can balance creativity with discoverability in this new music economy. 👉Here's an article I wrote on this matter: https://lnkd.in/dBWFh27E . . #MusicIndustry #StreamingMusic #Spotify #DigitalMusic #MusicProduction #ArtistsOnLinkedIn #music #business #marketing #streaming #creativity #AI

Entertainment Executive | Music Tech & AI | Streaming & DSPs | Artist & Label Relations | Recorded Music & Publishing
Can you imagine if Spotify had to open source their algorithms? Last week, an EU Parliament Committee made some dramatic recommendations to streaming services. Included was to "oblige platforms to make their algorithms and recommendation tools transparent..." They also implored them to clean up their metadata, exert more efforts to pay rights holders properly, and institute a policy of labeling AI content. They even went after Spotify's Discovery Mode, criticizing programs that reduce royalty rates in return for promo. One line in the report in particular stood out to me (quoting the article below): "...the way streaming royalties are shared out, 'pre-digital' conventions that tend to favour record labels should be “revised”. The economics of the music industry are entirely based upon early industrialized laws being applied to the digital era in weird and clunky ways. So if that statement doesn't sum up what needs to change, I don't know what does. #musicindustry #musicbusiness #streaming #musicai

Amid all the hubbub around new music-streaming payout models – user-centric, artist-centric and more – there has always been a question about what the biggest streaming services would do. Thus far, the experiments and proposals have tended to come from the mid-tier services like Deezer, SoundCloud and TIDAL. However, today there are reports that Spotify is preparing to make some tweaks to its payouts in response to the industry debates. The gist: tracks will soon have to reach a minimum threshold of annual streams to qualify for royalty payouts – Music Business Worldwide (MBW) said that this will only affect tracks that had previously accounted for 0.5% of Spotify’s royalties pool. Very interesting shift in the music streaming space business model! As someone who does a lot of 'passive listening' I don't think this is the correct shift to rewarding more engaged listening. Since music discovery happens more from algorithmic listening it's hard to see this as a winning business model. What do you think about it? #music #musicindustry #musicstreaming #business
