Cool Communication Themed Ice Breaker 🧊 When Brookgreen Gardens CEO Page Hayhurst Kiniry asked me to help with an ice breaker for some 40 top leaders of botanical gardens from across the country, I jumped for joy. Love plant people (having worked many times with Charleston Parks Conservancy.) However, this group was not my typical audience of introverts and ambiverts! So to challenge them, I put together a variation of Presentation Karaoke. It’s great for helping experienced leaders stretch their powers of imagination. Notice in the photo a couple of the presenters have large images in their hands. That’s because this is a slide-free group. We printed and laminated images that can be used afterward for any number of brainstorming or ice-breaker activities. What to Know About Presentation Karaoke Presentation Karaoke is an activity where participants deliver short impromptu presentations on slides they've never seen before, fostering spontaneity and creativity. 😊 It's a fantastic opportunity for senior leaders to hone their advanced communication skills, adaptability, and quick thinking in a supportive and fun environment. Leaders emerge from this experience feeling energized, confident, and ready to tackle any speaking challenge with flair and enthusiasm. In small teams you prepare presentations that introduce the topics of interest for your meeting, using the assigned images to fortify your point of view. Specifically here is the step-by-step: ● You will be assigned to teams of 3 to 5 ● Each team gets 5 slides with a single image on each for their presentation ● You will have 5 - 10 minutes (you decide, depends on size of group) to prepare a 5-minute presentation on a topic related to the selected theme ● The 5-minute presentation to the entire group can take any structure or format ● Time limit for the presentation is 5 minutes

‘It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.' Warren Buffett As the 2024 Formula 1 season kicks off, Christian Horner, CEO and Team Principal of Red Bull Racing, finds himself embroiled in controversy. Following a claim brought against him by an employee of the team, he was cleared of misconduct allegations earlier this week. However, leaked private messages purportedly from Horner to the employee in question have kept the story alive, fuelling further media speculation. The highly publicised nature of the situation, coupled with the need for a legal investigation and the content of the alleged leaked messages, inevitably means that Horner’s reputation is being called into question. Rebuilding trust, both externally with the public and internally with team members, poses a significant challenge. 🔍 In this month’s edition of the Comms Exchange newsletter, I delve into the strategic role of Internal Communications in managing such crises within organisations. I explore strategies for rebuilding employee trust and maintaining confidence in the organisation’s leadership. 📬 The newsletter will go out later today. If you're not on the list, there's still time! Each month I offer tips for navigating the challenges of modern internal communication. 🔴 Tedx Bound | Founder & Human-Driven Marketer | On a path to help 1000 athletic-driven brands find their “why” through brand and community experiences.
What is the number one thing I have found being a common trait between successful leaders and one that struggle.. Communication When I would get down on myself for over serving, burnout, even bringing in more money to the business, it was all due to my lack of solid communication.. I realized that communication is one of my biggest values. Collaboration, partnerships, family, interactions all come down to great communication. There was a study that says “effective communication increases retention by 4.5 times.” In a space like gym ownership where the churn rate is averaging 10%. Effective communication to your members, team, partners.. In fact, when you go a bit more down the rabbit hole.. Communication doesn’t just mean verbal, but written, visual.. This communication will be a make or break to grow not just an effective team, but a sustainable membership. What’s next? Well... you can do three things: 1 - Hit the 🔔 on my profile to be notified when I post. 2 - DM me to chat about all things brand, marketing, and personal growth related 3 - Subscribe to our YT channel by searching Zach-colman #branding #gymbranding #rebrand #activeworkshop #brand #brandbuilding #strategyworkshop #brandstrategy #branding #strategy

5 Steps to Make Communication a Team Sport: STEP 1 - Listen Actively: Really listen, don’t just wait for your turn to talk. Show you’re engaged with nods and “mhms." Example: Try not to plan your responses early. STEP 2 - Confirm Understanding: Ensure you understand before responding. It’s better to clarify than to assume and get it wrong. Example: “It sounds like...” STEP 3 - Provide Constructive Feedback: Offer feedback that helps, not hurts. Separate the feedback from the person. Example framework: Behavior->outcome->future action STEP 4 - Be Open to Feedback: Accept it graciously, even if it stings a bit. It’s all part of growing. Example: “Thanks for pointing that out.” STEP 5 - Keep the Conversation Balanced: Don’t dominate or vanish. Talking and listening are both important. Example: “How about you? What are your thoughts on this?” Communication is a team sport. Do you agree?

"Listen first. Give your opponents a chance to talk. Let them finish. Do not resist, defend or debate. This only raises barriers. Try to build bridges of understanding.
