November 3, 2023: A lot like Christmas morning, Monday is the official start to the college basketball season in what we hope will be a very special and fun year for MSU hoops. The Dukes from James Madison, however, won't be a pushover. They won their conference last year (but lost in the conference tourney) and are favored to again this year. JMU ranks in the top 150 on KenPom which puts them above Minnesota. Featured player, Terrence Edwards will be the player to watch for on James Madison. Edwards is a projected first team conference player and at 6'7" he could give MSU some fits playing at the wing with that size and skill. This should be a great test and warmup for the Spartans as they prepare for their matchup a week later against Duke in the Champions Classic. Last Friday our founder, Ross Bendik, taught a class on Sports Uniform Design to 3rd through 6th graders at a local Chicago school. The class covered: A. The history / evolution of uniform design. The history section focused on [a] the minimalists designs of the 1960's [b] the best designs of the pre-sublimation era [c] today's design trends B. Working with a team's inputs and league's requirements. Participants were able to chose from a set of mock design cases across football, soccer, and basketball. Mock design cases included a Taylor Swift NFL team and a Lincoln Park Zoo NBA team. C. The uniform design process. Participants used a design template to create their own uniform within the inputs from a design prompt. We plan to convert the history content to learning videos with template and case downloads for practice. We will also build out a more wrestling-centric version of this presentation for future use. Have fun, be creative. Also, if you are curious...by far the most popular design case was the Taylor Swift NFL team. The most popular sport to design was Soccer.

Sports Business Journal interviewed Jim Cavale, the co-founder and chairman of our client Athletes.org, for a well-reported story on the future of college sports.  The article points out that the current model is unlikely to survive, but no one truly knows what the next model will look like, including the ramifications of the ongoing lawsuits against the NCAA. “College sports have been flipped on their head in recent years,” wrote SBJ’s Benjamin Portnoy.
