I finished a session at SXSW earlier featuring people who worked in the non-profit sector. Wonderful session. Explaining the importance of story and authenticity. Protecting people who are willing to share their stories. Wonderful session.... UNTIL....their last video. which was their grand finale. It was a promo using AI technology, mostly...implying their interference...to bring "Abraham Lincoln back to life". So he could explain why the 13th amendment to the U.S. Constitution should have been written differently and how it should be changed. I have no idea how Abraham Lincoln would feel about the 13th amendment today in hindsight. That's the point though. No one really does. And of course your AI Lincoln is going to side with you. Why wouldn't he? It seemed to go against everything they had just promoted. Authenticity, accuracy of story, protecting people and their history and culture. After all of that, they manipulated a man's story to fit their narrative to promote what they believe in and assume he would have been on their side. It just felt like an improper use of technology. I believe non-profit organizations especially, should be very wary of the use of AI in story-telling. It's one thing to use it to enhance a story...it's another to use it to make up a story. Do not let AI steal your authenticity.

High School student at CETEC UCS. Founder of Oncologiando Project. Former Handball Player and Horse Rider Athlete. HBASS’29. CNI-X’24
🇺🇸 Hello, I hope everyone is well. I'm Nicole Seimetz Larcipretti, I'm 17 years old and I live in Caxias do Sul in Rio Grande do Sul. Recently, I went to an extremely prestigious program, at the third best university in the world, Stanford. The CNI-X Summer Program has the proposal of "Causing an Impact Through Clinical Neuroscience", and for this, they selected only 10% of the students who have enrolled to be able to participate in the program, through classes with professors, researchers and Stanford students. The program will take place in person, between 07/22/2024 and 08/02/2024, in the city of Palo Alto, in the United States. This is a great achievement for me, because, in addition to having managed to pass such a prestigious program and with such a low acceptance rate, I was also awarded a scholarship of 100% of the value of the program (2,400 dollars, around 13,000 reais). However, I came across other expenses, which need to be paid in a short period of time, given that the program takes place in July, in 3 months. These expenses reach more than 20,000 reais, which have: - R$ 8,000.00 of airline tickets; - R$ 1,000.00 of tourist visa, taking into account the current quote; - R$ 8,000.00 of accommodation, taking into account the hosting from 07/21 to 08/02 (13 days); - R$ 3,000.00 of food, taking into account the cost of living of the place and the exchange rate of the current dollar; In addition, I will have other additional costs, such as locomotion between cities (São José and Palo Alto) and within the city of Palo Alto, in addition to the dollar variation. These costs, in total, add up to more than 20,000 reais, and unfortunately I can't afford these expenses in just 3 months. Therefore, I kindly ask for your help, no matter how small it may be. Vamsi is on the board of Swadha Foundation, an organization focused on the employability of Young Adults under the age of 25. The effort REQUIRES FUNDING SUPPORT and hence this post. Rajesh is the person driving the initiative and an overview of the program is available below: https://lnkd.in/gn95BFuE Vamsi does his fair share of giving back and usually much of it is done privately. Two years ago he was involved in an The Akshaya Patra Foundation campaign and setup a community kitchen in Anantapur. Given his stature, raising money was the easiest task, but it took an year of behind-the-scenes effort, before the kitchen became operational, (the first AP kitchen completely funded by a pvt campaign). If you ask him, he will pass the credit to many, especially the Akshaya Patra team :) I love the THOUGHT AND THE EXECUTION FOCUS of these initiatives. For The Akshaya Patra Foundation’s program, every 40 cents of volunteer contribution is matched by 60 cent Govt contribution. The availability of good quality ingredients at low costs and the scale of operations (5000 meals/ daily) meant that nutritious food for a child was made available for the entire academic year for a volunteer contribution of 1100 INR or just 20 SGD. Midday meals bring the kids to school and address matters of nutrition. But studies I came across suggest that it does not improve learning outcomes. Swadha Foundation, aims to address that by making PERSONALIZED INTERVENTIONS TO YOUNG ADULTS (U25), OF ABOUT 2000 HOURS PER BENEFICIARY SPREAD OVER 5-6 YEARS. Right now, they are working on a PROMISING MECHANISM OF PROVIDING SMARTPHONES FOR STUDENTS. OPEN-SOURCED DIGITAL MATERIAL, allows learning interventions customized to the specific needs of each beneficiary. Initially I was skeptical primarily due to concerns about DEVICE ADDICTION. I am told that, this is not a big issue, as there is a selection process and the beneficiaries selected in Grade 11 are at a stage of their life where good guidance and availability of Swadha digital resources makes a meaningful impact. The total cost for 1 student, is INR 13000 (About SGD 210) and currently the links below allow donations via income earned in India. https://lnkd.in/gkSZvjks Details for foreign donations (Compliant to Indian FCRA regulations will be shared later).

(Posting this in personal capacity and as a Board member of Swadha Foundation - a non-profit NGO). I have been associated with Swadha foundation for 4 years now. They do impactful work amongst the youth from less privileged backgrounds in rural AP and Karnataka. They have a rigorous process to identify the bright amongst such backgrounds and support them through graduation till they land white-collar jobs. During those few years, the students benefit from high quality supplemental education, skill development, English language skills, mentoring support and funding for tuition and hostel fees. All with the aim to land them a good job and “float a boat”. Over the years, these efforts have been very high impact in terms of lifting many families to a newer trajectory. I am attaching a few YouTube videos that explain the impact of Swadha. One of them is from the students themselves (3.5 mins long) and the other is a pitch from the inspiring force behind Swadha Rajesh Mandyam (6 mins long). https://lnkd.in/gUkHS_Kg https://lnkd.in/gD4z5a3g One very impactful support mechanism is smartphones for the students. The attached slide carousel explains the high impact smartphones have in terms of enabling the fullest power of Swadha’s activities. Over the years, these smartphones have proved to be invaluable for the students to benefit from Swadha’s support programs. I was initially a skeptic about this program but am fully convinced now and participating enthusiastically in this fund-raise. The last page in the attached file has the link to the donation page. Just INR 13000/- (approx 150 dollars) will open up this opportunity for one student. Link to donation page also pasted below. https://lnkd.in/gyNyaPPa

Why do people become selfish when they succeed in their life? People don’t become selfish when they succeed in their life. People have to be selfish to succeed in their life. If you are always caring about other people, you can’t succeed in life. You have to think about your interests first to succeed in life. Once you succeed in life, you can help others. Hence, to become selfless, you have to first become selfish. Bill Gates can donate billions of dollars because first, he earned billions of dollars himself. Learn to get selfish.

LinkedIn friends, we need your help! One of our charities has a specific need. The amazing team at Conversation Over Borders is in need of laptops, phones and tablets in order to continue developing its range of educational opportunities. Conversation Over Borders has impressively facilitated over 7,800 free English classes. But, given the charity’s digital nature, its services become inaccessible when its beneficiaries’ phones break or become too challenging to use. People can be left disconnected from both the charity and their families. Additionally, some of the charity’s clients are having to share phones, and this is a situation that disproportionately impacts women. For all of these reasons, the charity is looking for tech donations. ▶ Find out more and donate items: https://bit.ly/493fiMc #charity #charitydonation #circulareconomy #upcycle #sustainability #charitywork #charitydonation #local #community #sendlesstolandfill #recycle #supportlocal #supportlocalcharities #supportlocalbusiness #brighton #laptop #mobiledevice #digitalexclusion #digitalinclusion

You Don't Get People to Give By Telling Them It "Feels Good" This is one of the more curious schools of fundraising thought. It advances the notion that giving in and of itself will make us feel good. If more people tried it, its advocates reason, the high would be so high that generosity would become addictive and therefore more prevalent. What are we doing? Selling drugs? Indeed, devotees of this school claim that neuroscience shows that when people give, the pleasure receptors in their brains light up, the same ones that twinkle when we take part in sex, drugs and rock n' roll. Well, yee-hah. For this we needed neuroscience? If this were the case, why would I give to purpose-driven organization? Why wouldn't I rent a helicopter, fill it up with dollar bills and drop them over a densely populated area so all the beneficiaries use the windfall to buy their favorite intoxicants? We'd all feel good - for an hour or two. The problem, of course, is that we as a society have no shortage of temporary feel good opportunities. What we have too much of is disconnectedness, loneliness, and wondering if we matter. The more virtual our existence, the more we search for meaning, community, authentic connection and intimacy. This is what true philanthropy can alleviate and mitigate, both for givers and the recipients of their caring investments. Second, those who are wired to give don't need to be encouraged to give, they need to be shown where their giving will make a difference in ways that are meaningful to them. Those not so wired will not be induced to give by us adopting the mantras of drug pushers. False inducements make our practice look like a snake chasing its tail. We've become so obsessed with what we want for ourselves that we miss what others are looking to achieve through their giving. What we're really chasing is the ass-end of our blind, mad-paced ambitions. It's not the mere act of giving that makes us feel good, it is the feeling of having made a difference, a human-to-human connection, of adding a thread or patching a part of the fabric of society, of alleviating suffering, of enriching a culture, of bequeathing more to the future than we inherited from the past. Offer more of that and the philanthropic will beat a path to your door.
