Recently, Principal, Steven Siegel, AIA LEEDap and Associate Principal, Anthony Catana attended the Sumter County School District Educational Support Center Groundbreaking. The new two-story, 45,000 SF transportation building includes bus and service bays, along with facilities and maintenance office. The building also features a metal shop, wood shop and warehouse spaces. PLANNING CONSENT: Tanner Architecture has won planning consent for two proposed extensions to this house sited in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and bordering a Conservation Area. The original house is formed from the conversion of a pair of mid-nineteenth century attached abattoir-worker cottages and the proposals continue its subsequent 165 year tradition of adapting and extending in response to the evolving lifestyle needs of its owners. The Most Sustainable Town in the UK Lewes is a quaint little town of 16,000 serving as both a bedroom community for the University of Sussex and a thriving art scene which occupies many of the industrial spaces that have hollowed out over the last century. Phoenix Iron Works has been a prime site for redevelopment given its prominence near the town center and scenic location along the River Ouse. So it is really great to see Human Nature and a massive group of architects, planners and consultants join the cause to turn it into a distinctive multi-family setting for 685 homes, more than 30% of which are intended to be low income. The development itself will be composed of timber buildings each designed by a different architect but adjoining around a central piazza. The latest buildings of Westerpark West are nearly finished. The construction of MVRDV's Westerpark West masterplan in Amsterdam continues, with three more buildings nearing completion. These include Blend, designed by MVRDV with expressive bay windows providing extra living space and excellent views, as well as Salt and Pepper, a twin pair of cantilever buildings designed by MVRDV and Elephant Architecture respectively. These buildings contribute to the varied typologies of the Westerpark West masterplan. The fact that greenery is an integral part of the entire project is clear with the diversity of outdoor spaces, from front gardens and loggias to balcony gardens and roof terraces. When completed, the 77,000-square-meter masterplan will bring over 900 homes to the Amsterdam Brettenzone. “Amsterdam urgently needs housing in all sorts of sizes and price ranges, for both purchase and rental,” says MVRDV founding partner Nathalie de Vries about Westerpark West. “Given the large number of homes that this project adds to Amsterdam-West, we have focused entirely on architectural diversity. The public space will be green and closely connect with the Westerpark. The combination of park and urbanity is unique to Amsterdam. 🌐 How can cities prevent urban sprawl? The rapid expansion of the geographic extent of cities, is often characterized by low-density residential housing. What if we prioritize to transform office buildings into homes, and densify and top up existing buildings. 👏 V8 Architects has just announced a project that makes use of all of these principles. A prominent building from the post-war reconstruction period in downtown Rotterdam, originally designed by Kraaijvanger Architects, awaits a major transformation. ✅ 98 apartments will be built in a former office building. The expedition court is used to deepen the existing building and two new floors are added. Which means that the floor area grows from 5,000 m2 to 8,300 m2. Residential Case Study: Bream Street, Bow Bream Street is a mixed-use development of seven buildings, including 202 modern 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, retail, employment and leisure spaces. Overlooking the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this development includes 30% affordable housing. The scheme consists of demolishing a post-war commercial building to deliver a series of buildings set around three shared gardens within walking distance to Hackney Wick Overground station. Cellecta’s ScreedBoard 20 was specified by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris due to it being the ideal overlay floorboard for acoustic applications. ScreedBoard 20 was laid upon the first floor over PIR to achieve U Values, as the build could not accept a wet screed due to weight restrictions upon the ground.
