Unlocking the Magic of Colour Grading in Video Production 🎨🎥 Colour grading is a fascinating process that can dramatically transform the look and feel of a video. And it's not just about making the footage look good; it’s about: 1️⃣ Setting the mood 2️⃣ Ensuring consistency between shots 3️⃣ Adding a unique creative style (if so desired) Setting the Mood: Whether it’s the warm tones of a heartfelt scene or the cool hues of a suspenseful moment, colour grading helps to convey the right emotions and atmosphere. Consistency between shots: Maintaining a consistent look across different shots and scenes is crucial. Colour grading ensures that variations in lighting and colour balance are smoothed out, giving the final product a cohesive visual flow. Creative Style: This is where filmmakers can truly express their artistic vision. A popular choice commonly seen in Hollywood blockbusters is the teal and orange colour scheme. This combination creates a striking contrast that highlights characters against the background, making the visuals pop. These are just a few of the benefits you get from colour grading. But what does the process look like? 👀 Shooting in Log: Filmmakers typically shoot footage in a flat, low-contrast format known as log. This format captures more detail and dynamic range, providing greater flexibility in post-production. Converting to Rec. 709: The log footage is then converted to Rec. 709, the standard colour space for video. This step is essential to bring the footage into a workable format, where colours start to appear more natural. Achieving the Desired Look 🎨: The real magic happens here. Adjusting various parameters like exposure, contrast, saturation, and colour balance, the goal is to create a visual style that aligns with the director’s vision and enhances the storytelling. Colour grading is an indispensable part of video production that can elevate a project from ordinary to extraordinary, and help you stand out from the crowd. If you're curious to see colour grading in action, check out my video below which goes through the process! 👇 #ColourGrading #VideoProduction #Filmmaking #CreativeProcess #PostProduction

1st Virtual Photographer & Trainer in Nigeria | Brand & Commercial Photographer | Cinematographer | I help you showcase your individuality & style by capturing genuine visuals at the comfort of your time & location.
Someone recently asked me on set, "How do you direct your subjects so well?" I smiled, as this skill truly enhanced my shots. The truth is, I had to develop my directing skills over time. I watched countless movies and behind-the-scenes footage, listening to top directors explain how they get their entire crew to deliver their best work. When I began working on movie and TV sets with different directors, I gained a deeper understanding and appreciation for this aspect of my craft. Directing starts with understanding the client's vision, adopting it, and effectively communicating it to your team. Creating an environment that stimulates creativity is crucial. Constant communication is key to fostering a great relationship on set, leading to successful shoots. You must be sensitive to body language, especially if your subject is struggling. Don’t get so focused on your goals that you overlook the needs of others. Always gauge the room to ensure everyone is on the same page and remember to compliment your team when they're doing well. These tips can transform not just your work but also your professional relationships. While honing your photography skills, also focus on improving your directing and communication abilities. I hope this helps you. Ps: Behind the scenes of my fashion campaign shoot with Simxshop. Dropping soon… #createwithlenz
