We are thrilled to share the incredible success of The Homestead at Hickory View Retirement Community's recent event, Paws for a Cause: Stuff the Bus, held in support of the Franklin County Humane Society! 🐾 Throughout the month of April, residents poured their hearts into crafting Paw Balm, Shampoo bars, and delicious dog treats, all with one goal in mind: to make a difference in the lives of our four-legged friends. 🐶❤️ Thanks to the unwavering generosity and dedication of our community, we were able to fill not just one, but TWO shopping carts with essential items like food, crates, beds, toys, and more! 🛒💖 #giveback #humanesociety

We got our first eggs this weeks! 3 total eggs valued at $1.24 at the grocery store. [They are free range after all!] Now, that feels like a pretty minimal payout. Less than $2 worth of eggs isn't great ROI on: → $100s in coop materials. → 2 months of weekends spent actually building the coop. → Hours & hours caring for very fragile chicks. → Daily responsibility of feeding & watering. But this doesn't tell the whole story. This doesn't consider how raising chickens Checked the box on so many of our family pillars. Having these animals has helped our family: → Slow down & live at 3mph. → Create life-giving rhythms for our kids. → Eat locally-sourced food. → Work together as a team. To many, our decision to get chickens may seem foolish. To us, it's been worth it 100x over. Dads, Fatherhood isn't about doing what everyone else says is best. It's about finding out what's best for YOUR family & kids. Craft your specific vision. Refine your unique values. Live them out consistently every day. What's something unique that you do in your fatherhood that works for your family?? #burnuntamed

Part 2 While this is just a snippet and it only has been one month, I’m beaming with pride to be apart of this organization that is filled with like-minded people who genuinely care about combatting hunger and making a difference. Going into this role I thought I had known a lot about food insecurity and the cycle of hunger, however, I have learned more in the last thirty days about this issue than I ever have before. FTB is truly on the ground doing the work - feeding not just the unhoused individual on the street corner asking for money that you see on your way to work, but our neighbors, our classmates, our co-workers, our friends, and our whole community. It truly is not about serving “them,” it’s about serving us. People go hungry every single day and no one should have to experience not knowing where their next meal will come from. Everyone should have the right to choose which foods they’re putting in their bodies. No one should have to make the hard choices of choosing to put food on their families’ plates, to keep their lights on, or to feed their pets. No one should develop diseases that are so preventable because all they can afford is unhealthy, processed foods. Feeding Tampa Bay recognizes that people face these obstacles every single day and has been a leader in finding ways to solve these issues and continues to innovate and evolve based on community need. To quote the good ‘ol Snickers commercial, “you’re not you when you’re hungry.” Overall, it’s been enlightening, informative, humbling, and some of the best thirty days a new guy on the job could ask for. Shoutout to my fearless leader Katherine Scaglione for bringing me on the team, empowering me to bring new ideas to the table, and for allowing me to take ownership over the programs that are apart of my role. This is just the start and I’m so excited to see what’s to come with this organization and team. If you’d like to learn more about Feeding Tampa Bay and get involved by donating either your time, treasure, or voice, I’d be happy to connect you, your family, place of work, school, etc. Shoot me a message to learn ways you can become a #HungerHero or head to our website feedingtampabay.org for all the things. #BecasueFoodMakesTomorrowPossible

While we would prefer dogs are never outside in cold weather for more than a few minutes, we invite you to keep the following in mind: Major news for dogs in Tulsa! Recently, the City of Tulsa passed an ordinance regarding chaining dogs outside. A recent KTUL story states, "One of the major changes is that big heavy chains can no longer be used to tether dogs, and dogs can't be tethered between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m." You can read the whole story here: https://lnkd.in/gnU_6bvQ You may ask--why is this a good thing? While our preference is that a dog is never left outside full time, especially overnight or in harsh weather such as the winter weather in the coming months, if a dog does need to spend time outdoors, these “tie outs” ensure dogs will have ample movement and flexibility. The tie outs are comfortable, flexible, more durable, and safer than a heavy chain, ideal for those times when dogs need to be kept outdoors for short lengths of time. In light of this, we have placed these dog tie outs on our Amazon wishlist and will have them available to anyone who needs them. To request tie outs, simply fill out the form below. Also, if you would like to donate tie outs to Tulsa SPCA, please click the second link below. Thank you for doing your part to keep dogs safe and secure! https://lnkd.in/giscfQFt https://lnkd.in/giMj-mUs

🤔 WHAT'S THE GREATEST GIFT YOU'VE GIVEN? Have you ever received a gift that transcends the material? A token that continues to spark joy or inspire you long after you unwrapped it? The act of giving goes beyond generosity; it's a powerful tool for connection and building meaningful bonds. It's a primal human instinct, observed in animal behavior. For example, animals groom each other and even offer food to vulnerable members. Giving is in fact the very reason we exist because someone made the ultimate act of giving life - childbirth. What's the most impactful gift you've ever given or received?

A Simple Act of Kindness: Help Our Feathered & Furry Friends 🐈🐕🐦⬛🪶 As summer heats up, spare a thought for the stray animals and birds who share our world. Finding water becomes a struggle, and dehydration can be fatal. We can all make a difference with a small act of kindness! Leaving out bowls or pots of clean water provides a lifeline for these vulnerable creatures. Every drop counts! Here's how to join this initiative: Find a container: You can use clay pots or upcycle old bowls, saucers, or even plastic containers. ♻️ Fill it with fresh water: Replenish it daily to ensure it stays clean and cool. 🚰 Place it in a shaded area: This prevents the water from evaporating too quickly. ☀️ Spread the word: Encourage your neighbors and community to do the same! ️🗣️ ESPECIALLY INVOLVE CHILDREN IN THIS INITIATIVE TO SOW THE SEED OF KINDNESS IN THEIR HEARTS ❣️ Imagine the collective impact of countless little water stations across neighborhoods! Together, we can create a network of hydration for animals in need. Let's show some summer compassion! #Kindness #Summer #HelpAnimals #BeatTheHeat #EveryDropCounts #Sharetoaware

Executive Director: Banfield Foundation BluePearl Cares VCA Charities | President: Better Together Fund | Global Giving Advisor | Nonprofit Board Member | Advocate for Animals
Banfield Foundation is back from a weekend on Najavo Nation in Lechee, Arizona and the message is clear: spay and neuter saves lives! 🧡🐕🐈 In communities where spay/neuter is not accessible, we end up with an overpopulation of dogs that can’t be cared for — many get hit by cars, become sick or injured, go without food or shelter and in most cases, become pregnant and the cycle begins again… This is why we are increasingly committed to bringing comprehensive preventive care to Tribal lands and under-resourced communities. The struggle is real (as is the cuteness) — but it doesn’t have to be! #spayandneuter Upon arrival in one neighborhood, this (adorable) mama and her four puppies were found running the streets — all are now spayed/neutered all four puppies were relinquished; two are looking for new homes. Visit another neighborhood, you’ll find the same situation. In just two days, our team worked with our partners at The Parker Project to spay and neuter 180 animals — we also provided wellness/sick care for 230 pets and provided food, shelter and extended tie-outs for dozens of deserving dogs and cats. we funded it all! ➡️ Three days on Navajo Nation, three takeaways: 1. Spay/neuter your dogs! 2. Spay/neuter your cats! 3. Support nonprofits working hard to spay/neuter! #abetterworldforpets #endingpethomelessness #proudlymars #proudlymarspetcare

Puppy Mill Awareness Day sheds light on the importance of adopting dogs instead of shopping at pet stores (which are often sourced by puppy mills). We must protect beloved animals by ending the cruel conditions that take place in puppy mills. Here are a few ways you can help: 🐾 Adopt a pet and spread the word to encourage others to do the same. 🐾 Spread awareness regarding puppy mills and the number of dog's lives lost due to neglect. 🐾 Help collect funds to support organizations working to end the puppy mill industry, and organizations taking care of homeless dogs.
