Do you need additional leadership but not ready to hire? Here's an answer... An interim executive. Someone who temporarily takes a management position in your company ro help the existing leadership solve problems and set a future, permanent leader up for success. Knowing whether an interim executive is right for your organization depends on your current needs and your assumptions about the future. Here’s what you need to know about what an interim executive does and how they might help your company. Why hire an interim executive? 👉 Your cash flow isn’t strong enough to hire a permanent executive. 👉 You don’t need a full-time, permanent executive yet. 👉 You want to test out the concept first. 👉 You need deep experience now, temporarily. 👉 There’s too much uncertainty to hire someone permanently. 👉 You want to focus on other things right now. What's the difference between an interim executive and a fractional executive? 1️⃣ Interim executives generally work with a company for a defined, temporary period of time. They provide full or part-time services for the length of the arrangement. ✅ An interim executive embeds themself within your organization. ✅ They interact with leadership as part of the leadership team, and perhaps might lead part of the company. ✅ They have goals and do some of the work hands-on. ✅ They also do a lot of advising and coaching. 🎯 An interim executive conforms to your organization in an effort to get your organization to reach specific goals. 2️⃣ A fractional executive (like a fractional CFO or CTO) generally offer a percentage of their time for as long as you want it. ✅ They’re building their own business to serve the needs of their clients longer term. ✅ They come with their own systems and structures, processes, and often their own team, allowing them to work cost effectively and profitably. ✅ A fractional executive could be working from the inside-out, but most often is what you’d consider “outsourced.” #interimmanagement #businessowners #leadership #strategy Read more: https://lnkd.in/eWCrMEsJ

Do I need a COO? CEOs often ask me about this. A COO (Chief Operating Officer) can be a vital role. But, be clear on WHY you need this person. Often CEOs want a COO because the team is not delivering on its goals. The CEO is struggling to align the team and get the results. In my experience, this points to other issues. The CEO is either doing a poor job communicating or she has the wrong leaders. A COO is not the right fix in this case. Hire a COO if you have an operationally complex business AND you don't want to lead that complexity. For example, if you are a product person and want so spend most time on product and vision, hire a COO. If you are a rain maker and to be out bringing in big deals, hire a COO. There's way more to this topic. The thing to reflect on is WHY. Why do I need a COO? Are there deeper underlying issues that you need to resolve first?
