Scholarships are even more effective when they include an intensive set of student success services. We realized this almost 15 years ago, when many still held onto a sink or swim mentality that led to abysmal #college retention and graduation rates for #students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Education Forward Arizona and our funding partners will award almost $2.5 million in funds to 550 scholars this year. Importantly, because our partners understand the added value, each of those scholars is assigned a dedicated Success Advisor with years of experience in supporting students through their #postsecondary education journey. In many cases, the support services end up being as valuable as the funding. All of our scholars come from low-income backgrounds and are often the first in their families to enroll in education beyond high school. The data tells us that similar students without this type of funding and support will unfortunately graduate at rates below 40%. We are proud that our scholars graduate at a 73% rate. If you are familiar with #scholarship programs that have not yet offered these crucial supports and services to their #scholars, point them in our direction.
