23rd June is #INWED24 (International Women in Engineering Day). Launched by the Women's Engineering Society some 11 years ago, this annual celebration supports and encourages young women and girls to take up #engineering careers – and is clearly a worthwhile initiative (2021 figures indicate that in the UK, just 16.5% of engineers are women). These global initiatives, in all industry sectors, are vital for our future. We know that women in technical roles are hugely under-represented; bringing awareness to this, whilst promoting the various roles that exist is a step towards encouraging women to be bold and follow the career path of their choosing, whatever the challenges along the way. https://www.inwed.org.uk/ #WISTA WISTA International #WomenInMaritime #DiversityandInclusion #DEI #WomeninTechnology

Play our game in the video below, then come back to this post. ▶️ Did you find yourself looking for a specific trait or person? It’s understandable if you were. Without us even realizing we are doing it, our biases impact future generations and can alter the career opportunities they see as available to them. This International Women in Engineering Day let's work to end the bias and help future generations by creating a world in which everybody has the opportunity to see themselves in a career in engineering. Today, as we celebrate International Women in Engineering Day, we also recognize there is still a lot to be done to achieve equal representation. So, let's get to work! #INWED24 #EnhancedByEngineering #WomenInEngineering #WomenInSTEM #EmbraceEquity

Congratulations to all the talented female engineers in bp. How, Doris Reiter can you be so proud when you are part of a leadership team that is treating the former/retiree talented female engineers and staff so badly?? Fortunately those highly talented retired female bp staff members are making major contributions on the legal, communications, project management, administration and many other areas to the BP Pensioner Group Campaign to have our pensions restored to what was always promised. Not and Penny more and not a Penny less!! Readers following #bp posts will often see comments from pensioners. Why? ➡️ bp has badly let down its UK #pension scheme members. And in a US pension case a federal judge has accused the company of having "committed fraud or similarly inequitable conduct". ➡️ For two consecutive years, the company has refused recommendations of the UK BP pension fund Trustees for below inflation cost of living pension increases. #BP won’t honour long standing pension policy commitments. The fund can afford these rises without bp contributing a penny. ➡️ This pension dispute deserves wider attention, to provide a more balanced view of the company. Pensioners will continue to campaign in this way until there is meaningful engagement with pensioner representatives. 📰 For details of the pension dispute see: https://lnkd.in/eGd4aNtF #INWED #EnhancedByEngneering #INWED24 #WomenOfbp #inclusion
We’re proud to mark International Women in Engineering Day 2024! 🥳🤝 Now in its 11th year, #INWED is a celebration of the work done by women engineers across the globe. This years theme is #EnhancedByEngineering, so we asked some of our colleagues to share their thoughts on the importance of female representation in engineering and the impact it’s had on the industry. Swipe through to hear what they had to say. 💭 We don’t believe there are limits to what women in engineering can achieve and hope these stories inspire others to pursue careers in this space. This Sunday, 23 June, is International Women in Engineering Day. It's a significant occasion to reflect on the contributions of women in engineering and to inspire future generations of female engineers. A 2022 report by Engineers Australia found that women make up 48 per cent of Australia’s workforce, yet account for just 13 per cent of the nation’s working engineers. This disparity highlights the importance of encouraging more women to pursue and thrive in engineering careers. To mark this day, we asked Director Nicole Armit, BEnvEng and Associate Katie Teyhan, BEng (Mech) to share their perspectives as women in engineering. Check out the video below to hear their responses and join us in celebrating the achievements and potential of women in engineering. #INWED24 #EnhancedByEngineering #CreatingOpportunities

Happy early International Women in Engineering Day! How exciting to be an honorable mention and I am proud to be working for Affiliated Engineers, Inc. Women are still a minority in the engineering industry, so I appreciate AEI's focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. It's crucial for encouraging more women to join the field. The work we do is genuinely exciting, and as society increasingly recognizes engineering as a viable and rewarding career for women, more young women will be inspired to pursue it. Engineering no longer needs to be seen as a man's career; it's a field where women can thrive and make significant contributions. For young women considering careers in engineering, I have three pieces of advice. First, have confidence in your abilities. You can tackle challenging tasks and excel in them. You have the creativity to design innovative solutions for the unique problems that arise in projects. Second, always be learning. Never hesitate to ask questions, no matter how small or basic they may seem. Continuously push yourself to take on new tasks and challenges. By doing so, you'll gain valuable knowledge and experience, becoming more capable and confident in your ability to work independently in the future. Third, seek mentorship. People are generally kind and willing to support you if you ask for what you need. Get advice about licensing or accreditations, continuing education, career choices, design decisions, and more. Talking to people who have been through what you’re going through is a great way to reduce stress and be better prepared. In design work, there’s always more than one way to achieve a goal, so you’ll learn a lot from others by sharing and discussing ideas.
This Sunday, June 23rd, is International Women in Engineering Day — a time to celebrate women engineers’ accomplishments, promote gender diversity in the field, and encourage youth to consider a career in engineering. By commemorating women engineers and supporting their professional growth, #AEI fosters an inclusive and diverse workplace. Their dedication and expertise drive our success and shape a better future through engineering excellence. In celebration, we’ve invited several of our remarkable women engineers to share their journeys, challenges, advice, and more! Every success story for people that have previously suffered from discrimination is a step forward in the fight for total inclusion. There are many posts and comments from #BPPG that describe bp's isolation and unfair treatment of pensioners, surely discrimination based on age. #Ageism It is a clear and simple fact that any DE&I policy has failed if it excludes one or more diversity strand. bp's DE&I policy has failed this test. Indeed that attached post from Doris Reiter, with comments restricted, demonstrates bp institutional exclusionary beheviour patterns by stifling debate. It is a sad fact that both history and industry trends result in bp's unjust treatment of its former employees is far harsher on its female pensioners. 🔰Those on a direct pension from bp would traditionally have been lower paid than their male colleagues and have a lower pension as a result. 🔰Due to lower numbers of women employed in the industry at that time there will be a disproportionate ratio of women to men on surviving dependant pensions. As these two groups are both likely to be on lower than average pension they will suffer the most from this disgraceful pension increase blocking, through a period of exceptional and unprecedented inflation. The resulting drop in living standards compounded for the rest of their lives. We all need to continue to support each other in this fight until we ALL receive equal opportunity and fair treatment. #BPpensions #IWED #LGBT
