What do cables on the ocean floor have to do with the State Department? Undersea cables carry more than 95% of the world’s digital traffic. Any disruption or compromise could isolate a country, threaten national security, or lead to billions of dollars in damage. That’s why we’re working with our partners and private companies to ensure this infrastructure is secure and resilient. “This partnership is absolutely essential,” Secretary Blinken said when he visited technology company NEC Corporation in Tokyo during his recent trip to Asia. That’s also why we are always on the lookout for architects, engineers, digital communication experts and others to join our team. Senior Network Development Engineer @ Amazon Web Services (AWS) | Network Engineering | Technical Instructor
Network Engineering: A Path Less Traveled But Highly Rewarding Some may say - and I'm afraid I have to disagree with it - It's not the most glamorous job in tech. But it sure is vital. Dive into the world of network engineering, where the unseen powerhouses of our digitally driven lives work behind the scenes to keep everything connected. As a seasoned network engineer and a professor in this field, I have enjoyed a career that has never ceased to challenge, intrigue, and ultimately fulfill me. Network engineering isn't just about connecting cables or routers; it's about problem-solving, strategic planning, and ensuring the lifeline of any company – its communication infrastructure – remains intact. In my many years in this field, I have witnessed dramatic changes as technology evolved. We've moved from cabling LANs to orchestrating virtual networks that span continents, making this a tremendously dynamic field to be part of. If you are considering a career in technology, don't overlook network engineering. It's a rewarding path that offers plenty of opportunities for growth and constant learning. 💡 Network Engineer Tip: Optimize Wireless Network Performance with Channel Planning and Site Surveys! 📶🛠️ Improve the reliability and speed of your wireless network by carefully planning channel allocation and conducting site surveys. Channel interference and coverage gaps can significantly impact wireless performance. Follow these steps for optimization: 1. **Perform Site Surveys:** - Conduct thorough site surveys to assess signal strength, interference, and coverage areas. 2. **Analyze Survey Results:** - Use survey data to identify dead zones, areas of high interference, and optimal access point (AP) placement. 3. **Plan Channel Allocation:** - Allocate non-overlapping channels (e.g., channels 1, 6, and 11 in the 2.4 GHz band) to minimize interference. 4. **Adjust Transmit Power:** - Adjust AP transmit power levels to optimize coverage without causing interference. 5. **Monitor Network Performance:** - Regularly monitor wireless network performance and make adjustments as needed based on usage patterns and environmental changes. #WirelessNetworking #ChannelPlanning #SiteSurvey #TechTips #Networking #LORSIVTechnologies By carefully planning channel allocation and conducting site surveys, you can ensure optimal wireless network performance and reliability. Yesterday, I had the privilege of being part of a dedicated team tasked with reviving an enterprise-scale #network. As the only field engineer on site, my role was pivotal, while three remote engineers had access to the switches via SSH . The major issue was a critical interface connecting over 70 end devices—it was down, and the telltale LED light was ominously dark. The pressure was immense. My first step was to methodically check every physical connection using an #RJ45 cable tester and an #SFP cable tester. It was a painstaking process, but I uncovered a few faulty cables connecting the switch and patch panels. I replaced them, hoping for a sign of life, but the interface remained stubbornly down. Meanwhile, the remote engineers were deep in their diagnostics. They discovered an SFP mismatch on some switch interfaces, a potential breakthrough. I swapped out the SFPs, our hopes rising with each click of a new module sliding into place. But still, the interface refused to cooperate. Hours ticked by, the tension mounting as we wrestled with the problem. We had been at it for over six hours. Fatigue was setting in, but giving up wasn't an option. Our reputation and the client's operations were on the line. Frustration turned to a steely determination as we retraced our steps, reviewing every possible variable. Then, an idea struck: could it be the polarity on the SFP cables? It was a long shot, but at this stage, every possibility was worth exploring. With a mix of anxiety and cautious optimism, I adjusted the polarity on the SFP cables. As I made the final connection, there was a moment of palpable tension. And then—boom—the interface sprang to life. The LED light glowed with a reassuring brightness. Relief washed over me. I was elated, the remote engineers cheered through our communication channels, and the client was visibly delighted. It was a hard-won victory, a testament to perseverance and teamwork. The thrill of solving such a complex problem was exhilarating, and while there's still much more to learn in the life of a #networktechnician, moments like these make every challenge worthwhile.
