For centuries, the UK has been a melting-pot for artists. This summer we’re celebrating its magnetic spirit with ‘London: An Artistic Crossroads’ at Sotheby’s.
The exhibition brings together a remarkable group of works from twelve museums across the country to shine a spotlight on the UK as a global center of art. From Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger to Francis Bacon, all works are by artists who spent time in or called this country home.
Free and open to the public in our New Bond Street galleries from 25 May - 5 July, come see the works together for the first time ever, alongside the London Summer Sales, and learn more about the exhibition below.

The Back-To-Back sofa is a single piece combining two Standard Arm Signature sofas, exclusively crafted by George Smith.
This sofa can be traced back to the middle of the 19th century when it was commonly found in prestigious residences, as well as art galleries and museums across Britain.
Proving that a statement piece can also be functional and comfortable,
the Back-To-Back sofa from George Smith stands out as a timeless piece of art that will be the talk of the room.

While the journey at TMA has only been 9 months. The journey to make create a more equitable world for artists began over 2 years ago in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
I had just completed an installation I'd been working on for several years. The biggest challenge was waiting for nanomaterials research to progress to the point where I had materials which would do what I had envisioned. Years of research, practice, and work had led to that moment. But the pandemic dismantled my art career just as I was picking up steam and doing the kind of work I'd dreamed of doing.
I began investigating the world of web3 and NFTs desperate for a way to continue creating and to continue earning income. It was there I found a way to solve the storage, distribution, and documentation problems I had been struggling with pre-pandemic.
The inability to ship a work to China had cost me a massive sale a few years prior. Working digitally, I would never miss out on another big sale and I would never owe 30% or more of it to a gallery.
Even though I was raised by the internet and am very much a digital-native. I had always assumed the only viable market for art was physical, so that's where my focus had always been. But with the advent of this technology, I was finally free to create work that resonated with me regardless of how traditionally monetizable it was.
This was the personal revolution I experienced in 2021.
Now I'm proud to be bringing that revolution to the broader art world in 2024.
As we venture into uncharted territories of art and technology in 2024, I invite you to join and share your insights. Are you reshaping art with digital or Web3 tech? Let's connect and innovate together. Share your thoughts below or reach out – let's make art history!

I feel like we just did the impossible in 9 months at the Toledo Museum of Art.
There is so much that I learned throughout getting us to launch on this month-long experience following a unique and transformative artist residency.

What a gorgeous painting Brian! In your Visual Art and our music together, your sense of the 'narrative' of life, the stories, social commentary and recognition of beauty in the apparently ordinary, fleeting moments of the everyday is always evident. As in this painting, you successfully imbue your work with empathy, poignancy, and atmosphere.

Absolutely thrilled for the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago
"Collectors Marilyn and Larry Fields make ‘landmark gift’ of 79 works to MCA Chicago. The gifted works are predominantly by woman-identifying and Bipoc artists, including pieces by Huma Bhabha, Arthur Jafa, Adrian Piper, Jennie C. Jones and Cindy Sherman."

As avid gallery-goers, we are always shocked and appalled to hear that people think of online galleries as being on a mission to replace the physical ones...
Online galleries should not, and cannot, replace the physical exhibition space. We serve a different purpose.
The reality is, there are not enough physical gallery spaces to show all the wonderful work that artists are creating. Online galleries are another outlet - an avenue to get more eyes on more art by more artists, and provide an opportunity to view art in a more commercial capacity than most physical exhibitions can (or care to) offer.
We encourage all of our artists to leverage both physical and online showcasing to maximize their reach, both to the exhibition goers and those whom want to see art in a more commercial, approachable setting.

The annual report of Asortymentna kimnata 2023 is out and in the first link.
16 exhibitions with over 152 exhibition days featuring works by 114 artists. 4 art books and 3 art residencies. Several transport missions of Ukrainian contemporary art to Europe and 2 exhibitions abroad. One School of Contemporary Art and one tailor made program for the artists affiliated with southern regions of Ukraine as well as for more connections between south in west inside the country.
One important remark - in 2023 we were not evacuating any new art pieces, but we taking care for those which are staying in our shelter since 2022. From almost 1000 evacuated pieces we’ve got one third still in our shelter — those are mostly the pieces which do not have a place to come back. In 2023 we’ve also started to restore some of those pieces. Since spring 2023 we do not have external funding for the costs, connected with shelter, security and restoration. This is being financed from the own costs of the organization and/or from some smaller rests of overheads for other programs.
We are still understuffed and lacking resources for institutional sustainability. But we are working on it and doing our best with what we have and where we are.

What new stories can be told when everything remains the same in museum culture? The changing of an exhibition doesn’t signal the changing of attitudes in our art institutions. Many times, old ways of doing things impede the progress the visitors, donors, and many times board members push for.
A place like the Smithsonian has a strict set of guidelines for presentation to the public so we expect a certain feeling of academia, history, and research when we enter those spaces. But public and even private museums must do better with their presentation of people, values, and opportunity to enact a true culture shift.
