The recent documentary "Black Barbie" struck a chord with me. I laughed, I cried, I felt seen. It was D-O-P-E!!! 💖 🗣 It's a powerful reminder of why having diverse voices at decision-making tables is critical. Growing up, I rarely saw Black Barbies, and that subtly (or not so subtly) shaped my perception of beauty. It sent a message that the standard was long blonde hair and blue eyes, a standard I inherently knew I didn't and would never meet. It sent a subtle message about who was worthy and who wasn't. For too long, I've navigated spaces where I felt like they were exclusive clubs. This experience extends far beyond toys. It's a reflection of the need for POC representation in decision-making roles across industries. We bring unique perspectives that can completely transform products, marketing, and the overall brand narrative. This documentary highlights the profound impact representation has, even in something as seemingly simple as a doll. It resonated with me, but clearly, countless other Black women share this experience. This is why I became an entrepreneur. I craved a space where my voice mattered, where the table wasn't just for those who looked a certain way. "Black Barbie" is a call to action. It reminds us of the work still needed. But for those of us fortunate enough to have a seat at the table, let's use it to ensure the room reflects the beautiful diversity of the world we live in. Kudos and Thank You - Shondaland Did you see it yet? Let me know what you think. #representationmatters #diversityandinclusion #blackexcellence #entrepeneruherlife

Over the past 16 years, we've heard the buzz about change in Hollywood regarding better representation onscreen, but the latest University of Southern California (USC) inclusive study reveals the truth: it's mostly talk. Despite initiatives like #OscarsSoWhite and #MeToo, not much has changed for the onscreen landscape. "It's all talk and little action. Many of these numbers did not move or went backwards. That shows us that the industry does not know how to change without the intervention of experts to work with them to change the systemic processes that lead to inequality and discrimination." - Stacey L. Smith, a professor of communications and head of the survey initiative. It's time to demand less words and more push for meaningful action, fostering diversity, and inclusion within Hollywood. At #HeroMedia, we're steadfast in our mission, ultimately doing our part in combating this issue and forging a path towards equal representation -- once and for all. 🌏 Head of Global Media & Brand Finance for Film & TV | I partner brands, storytellers, & talent to create win-win situations that achieve results | Brand & Partnerships Builder | Content, PR & Marketing Strategist♟
I did this interview as a special celebratory edition for Inner Voice Artists’ 100th Global Spotlight Series. In it, I talk about how I successfully started and built the global company. I also talk about the importance of intellectual property ownership and understanding contracts, the rapid and disruptive advancements of technology, the rise of the multi-hyphenate storyteller, and how all the transformations occuring in the film and TV industry are reminiscent of the changes that the music industry underwent years prior with Napster and Spotify. Hopefully my interview can help provide further insight into the ever-evolving media and entertainment landscape, and what creators, attorneys, agents, and executives need to be wary of, and prepared for, heading into a new era of doing business in media. https://lnkd.in/gSgYXyyh

Ever heard of DARVO in #DEI conversations? It stands for Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender - a pattern of behaviour where accountability dodgers deny their actions, attack the caller-out, and flip roles to portray themselves as the victim. DARVO is a manipulative tactic that undermines diversity efforts and perpetuates power imbalances. By recognising this pattern, we can better navigate workplace challenges and foster a more inclusive environment. Whether or not you're a fan of Southpark, they have certainly hit the nail on the head (Warning: EXPLICIT!). 👇 https://lnkd.in/erzjyJfc Let's stay vigilant and uphold accountability for a truly inclusive workplace! #DiversityandInclusion #Accountability #InclusiveCulture #LeadingByExample #DARVO

Inclusion Consultant | Sharing the joy of Inclusion :-D | Chief Inclusion Officer | Strategic Planner | Leadership Developer
Happy Thursday! My favorite day of the week! Thursdays are the only day of the week when I have no meetings to allow myself to reflect before I give it one last go on Friday. On a Thursday, I started thinking about a question I was asked some time ago. The question was, is inclusion just assimilation? My reply was quite the contrary; inclusion includes all as they are. The question reminds me of one of my favorite videos that I am sharing. It’s a little lengthy, but my clients always like it. It’s called Purl. https://lnkd.in/gRwEFppX When we focus on inclusion, we make space for a new perspective. We look for cultural ADDITIONS versus cultural FIT. It’s one of the reasons why the Inclusion Expansion is so critical because we are expanding our reach by bringing various lived experiences to include. Therefore, I bring experiences (i.e., scholar-practitioner, HR background, grandmother picking cotton in Mississippi, entrepreneur, etc.) that make me who I am. I bring resourcefulness, creativity, expertise, and an esteemed work ethic from these experiences. Hence, an organization reaps the rewards from all that I have experienced. Preparing ourselves to expand our capabilities, capacity, and commitment leads to sustainable growth and development. I find it to be my mission every day! Enjoy the day!! #inclusionexpansion #inclusionontheslopes #joyofinclusion #consultant #entrepreneur #hrprofessional #culture
