Leadership Advisor & Team Effectiveness Coach | Board Member | Disabilities and Down Syndrome Advocate
Thrilled to re-share this post featuring the remarkable advocacy work of Jordyn Zimmerman, M.Ed. Zimmerman, champions individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including her own journey as a non-speaking person autism. CBS Mornings recently featured Jordyn's inspiring story, shedding light on her remarkable journey. Born non-speaking, Jordyn defied expectations when she gained access to assistive communication technology at 18, finally unlocking her voice and connecting with the world. Having had the privilege of interviewing Jordyn for a research project, I witnessed firsthand the depth of her insights. Her use of assistive communication technology underscores the importance of patience and respect in communication as it sometimes takes up to a few minutes for her to type her commentary / responses (as these are her complex experiences and thought-leadership). During that conversation, I made the conscious decision to NOT do anything else while Jordyn was typing her part of the conversation because it felt akin to talking over her. And in those minutes of silence, I found myself becoming even more focused and present in the moment. Jordyn’s disability provided me with an opportunity to try to be a better listener while creating the space for her to share her incredible perspectives, uninterrupted. Jordyn's story serves as a catalyst for positive change, inspiring me to advocate for greater access to technology for individuals with disabilities. As a parent of a son with an intellectual / developmental disability, I eagerly anticipate Jordyn's continued impact as she empowers others to express themselves fully and share their unique gifts with the world. #leadership
Grateful to be able to share my story on CBS Mornings about how accessible technology such as iPad, continues to enable opportunities. It is my hope that by sharing my own journey, more people are able to gain access to the communication tools and support they need. Thanks to all of the incredible people and teams who worked to bring this story to life!

Strategic Biz Partner Lead for Brand Awareness and Sales Growth Dad KultureCity Activist Entrepreneur Co-Author Founder "Special Dads" Group Speaker
Post-Independence Day: A Call for Inclusion and Accessibility! Today, the fireworks have faded, and we've returned to our everyday routines. Yet, for many in the disability’s community, achieving a "normal" independent life remains a significant challenge. Imagine being highly educated, skilled, and ready to work, but still struggling to find employment. This is the reality for 74% of qualified individuals with autism. Despite their qualifications and eagerness, these talented individuals face barriers that prevent them from securing jobs and living independently. There are incredible organizations dedicated to preparing individuals with disabilities for the workforce. They provide job readiness training, interview preparation, and skill development. These efforts are commendable and necessary, but what happens once these individuals are hired? Support shouldn't end with a job offer. This is where KultureCity steps in, making a significant impact worldwide. KultureCity partners with venues and organizations to ensure inclusiveness and accessibility. As we move beyond Independence Day, let's extend our commitment to create a world where independence is not just a celebration but a reality for all. Let's ensure that everyone can live a life of dignity, purpose, and true independence. Huge thanks to our service women and men!
