The Pacific Environmental Education Center (PEEC) has upgraded from their 23-year-old Chevy pickup to a brand new EV! This new truck is essential for transporting staff and supplies to various locations, including the sand dunes, Jughandle State Preserve, and Mendocino tide pools. "Without the contribution from Sonoma Clean Power, PEEC would not have been able to raise the funds needed for the purchase of the truck," said Lorrie Lagasse, Board President. "Because we are an environmental education camp, having an electric vehicle fits in with our goals. We are able to walk the walk.” Discover more about Pacific Environmental Education Center (PEEC) and stay connected by following their social media accounts! Are you with a nonprofit looking to make the switch? You can get up to $22,500 toward the purchase of an EV through SCP's Nonprofit EV Incentives program! Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/g64miwFe

🌿 Join us for North Texas Giving Day! 🌿 Your support helps us protect our natural resources, preserve wildlife habitats, and promote sustainable practices in our community. 🌳 Why Give? 1. Environmental Impact: We have planted an estimated 1.5 million trees since 1982. These trees have sequestered over 3.2 billion pounds of carbon dioxide and removed approximately 13.6 million pounds of air pollution. 2. Community Education: We run educational programs that teach the importance of trees and environmental stewardship. Initiatives like the Cool Schools Program connect students and teachers to nature. 3. Economic Savings: The environmental services provided by trees translate into significant economic savings. For example, the carbon dioxide sequestered by the trees we have planted has saved an estimated $145.8 million. 🌱 How You Can Help: 1. Donate: Every dollar counts! Visit https://ow.ly/eKwu50T7RJf to make your contribution from now-September 19th 2. Share: Spread the word by sharing this post with your friends and family. 3. Volunteer: Join our team and make a hands-on difference.

https://lnkd.in/gJWJ3dqC So pleased to partner with the Erb Family Foundation on our important environmental management and justice work on Detroit's Eastside. (Fun fact: Dr. Shuster purchased materials from Erb Lumber for his 1982 Eagle Scout nature trail project!) We all live in a watershed (or, us urban dwellers, in sewersheds), which is the geographic area of land that drains or “sheds” water into a specific surface water. The coastal eastside sheds water (and – yuk – sewer overflows) into the Detroit River (thus the sewershed naming). The USEPA established a program to sustainably manage watersheds for water quality. This program calls for a watershed management plan (WMP), which guides this work. However, the Detroit River watershed is the only watershed in southeastern Michigan without a WMP. How did that happen? 🙁 Dr. Shuster has worked with MI EGLE, WSU OVPR, USACE, and now Erb Family Foundation to fund a WMP HQ at the Eastside Community Network, and get this WMP drafted and on the move. 🙂 What is special about the Erb Family Foundation Funding and our WMP effort? We are building a resident-driven writing process toward drafting this WMP. We value the time and expertise of resident watershed planners drawing from the Eastside to work with with us. We recognize this effort and engagement via the still-novel concept of compensating for the value these watershed planners will bring to the process. Filing this WMP means that Eastsiders can resolve this significant environmental injustice, identify and guide voluntary measures, and become eligible for different types of environmental project funding (State, Federal), which can be used to implement the WMP, and improve our coastal Detroit environment writ large.

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!!!!!!! The second round of grantmaking for the Environmental Justice Data Fund (EJDF or “the Fund”) will be supported by a $4 million fund, created and seeded by Google.org. The EJDF aims to help frontline communities historically underserved and disproportionately impacted by climate change and environmental injustice in the United States use data to address environmental hazards, with special attention to matters regarding air and water quality. The Fund will support eligible organizations to unlock resources, increase their access to federal infrastructure funding, and advocate for new policies that empower communities to address past environmental harm and pave the way to a more sustainable, climate-resilient future. The new round of grantmaking was designed based on insights from the 2022 grantmaking cycle, which demonstrated a high need in the field to address environmental hazards, especially related to air and water quality. The fund remains dedicated to the principle that supporting data work will help advance justice and build power within local communities. By providing those most impacted by environmental injustices with valuable information, they are empowered to confront these issues and develop community-led solutions. The Fund will prioritize projects that serve frontline communities and consider a broad range of approaches to using data to advocate for environmental justice at the local and regional levels (please see below for how the Fund defines “frontline communities”, “environmental justice”, and “data” for this opportunity). It will provide organizations with flexible project funding to increase their organizational capacity to incorporate quality data work into their environmental and climate justice programming. The fund expects to make two to four grants of $500,000 and six to eight grants of $250,000. The Fund encourages grantees to leverage grant funds for matching opportunities, if applicable. Deadline: August 30, 2024.

An impactful study has been done on the landscape of environment education with Michigan used as the pilot state. The discoveries have been compiled into a report highlighting our MiSTEM Network and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy as catalysts in environmental learning and green workforce! The report has also caught the attention of national organizations working with individual states to raise the profile and importance of 3p (place, problem and project-based) environmental education. 🌊 Cleaning up coastal debris and enhancing the harbor's ecosystem: That's the aim of Wounded Nature Working Veterans, in Charleston, South Carolina. Wounded Nature Working Veterans is a nonprofit dedicated to cleaning up debris in the Charleston Harbor, and laying oyster beds. They’ve already removed over 1,000 tons of debris, making a significant impact on the environment. By increasing domestic seafood populations, the initiative provides a vital protein source for lower-income coastal families and improves Low Country residents' overall quality of life. 🍃 Supporting these efforts is the Bosch Community Fund, the corporate foundation for Bosch USA in North America, which promotes the enrichment of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and environmental stewardship for students and teachers in Bosch site locations. By covering expenses like transportation, materials, and waste disposal, the Fund enables these volunteers to continue their essential work in restoring the harbor's ecosystem. 🦪 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eqCWeW9J #initiative #coastalcleanup #nature

The Environmental Defense Center (EDC) is the only nonprofit environmental law firm dedicated to protecting the environment between Los Angeles and San Francisco. To sustain their success, they need to generate revenue from multiple sources without overburdening their staff. That’s where Click & Pledge was able to help. EDC struggled with multiple payment-processing systems that wasted precious staff time on data entry and management. By switching to Click & Pledge, they saved 10% to 35% of staff time, allowing them to focus on more impactful work. Curious to see how we made it happen?
