  US Associate market round-up | The uptick in US market activity continued throughout Q1 and as we enter Q2, we’ve noticed growth is not just limited to New York;  DC, Texas, and California (both NorCal and SoCal) are all areas of focus for our clients. If you're looking to make a move, now is a great time of year for US associates to start discussing their options and getting their CV and deal sheet updated. Here are some of the roles our US associate team has been working on as we enter Q2 2024: - Finance: 2nd to 5th years - NYC – Diverse practice. Preference is for lender side but will also look at borrower side experience. Exposure to fund finance work and some growth and venture work, as well. Work with two dynamic partners. - Capital Markets - 4th -7th years - NYC - full service topflight capital markets practice which is underweight for its standing in the market. That means great partnership prospects. Senior Associates with HY experience particularly sought after. - Financial Analyst | Risk Arbitrage: 3rd to 5th years – NYC or Greenwich, CT – a hedge fund backed by one of the world’s largest alternative asset management firms is seeking a mergers-focused antitrust attorney to work as a risk arbitrage analyst. 3-5 years of US transactional antitrust experience from a top-tier law firm, the FTC or DOJ is required. - Project Finance – 2nd to 4th years – NYC or DC - Market leading practice with an incredible record of making up lawyers. - Tax (Renewables) - 2 - 8 years - NYC, DC, LA - Join this group and you will be well-placed for whatever you decide to do in the future. The only limiting point of this group's growth is hiring. Incredible practice and market share. -M&A: mid to senior level associates - Palo Alto – One of the most elite corporate law firms. Fantastic M&A group that works on high quality deals with very interesting clients. Associates are assigned meaningful and challenging work. - Tech Transactions: 2nd to 6th years - NYC, Austin, SF - top tier team that has a great record of making associates up to partner. Hiring a Good M&A Attorney In wealth management, hiring a good M&A attorney is just as important in getting a quality deal done as hiring a knowledgeable M&A advisor. Many owners have strong, long-standing relationships with their corporate attorneys and often have an inclination to hire them, or an attorney-client, to help them on the legal side of a deal. This is not the time!! Wealth management is such a nuanced business, where there are no hard assets changing hands. A good, practiced M&A attorney who has a history of working with wealth management firms in particular will go such a long way in ensuring you, your business and your employees are protected once the ink dries. They will know which legal terms are market and where it will be harder to push. They can speak the same language as the attorney on the other side of the table, which is invaluable when trying to get a deal done fairly. Just like an M&A advisor, whose job is to understand the business side of the market, it is the M&A attorney’s job to know the legal side.
