We will see a total solar eclipse today, Monday, April 8. Please remember, you should never stare directly at the sun without special eclipse glasses as it can be damaging to the eye. In our area, the eclipse will begin at 2:15 p.m. and reach its peak at 3:30pm. Locally, we will be able to see around 90% of the eclipse. Since the eclipse will coincide with school dismissal on Monday, we strongly encourage families and staff to remind students not to look at the eclipse without special eyewear. We will not see another total solar eclipse again until 2045 in the United States. Learn more about the eclipse and about safety: https://lnkd.in/eUZNvi3E https://lnkd.in/gs5uJNAS

Happy Total Solar Eclipse Day! Here are some important safety guidelines to follow during a total solar eclipse: View the Sun through eclipse glasses or a handheld solar viewer during the partial eclipse phases before and after totality. You can view the eclipse directly without proper eye protection only when the Moon completely obscures the Sun’s bright face – during the brief and spectacular period known as totality. (You’ll know it’s safe when you can no longer see any part of the Sun through eclipse glasses or a solar viewer.) As soon as you see even a little bit of the bright Sun reappear after totality, immediately put your eclipse glasses back on or use a handheld solar viewer to look at the Sun. #SolarEclipse2024 #safety The sun’s ultraviolet (UV) light can harm the sensitive cells in your eyes. Overexposure to UV light can cause symptoms including blurry or distorted vision and blind spots. It can also contribute to longer-term vision problems. - Use ISO 12312-2 standard eclipse glasses or solar viewers. - DO NOT see through regular sunglasses, no matter how dark they are. - DO NOT see through camera, telescope, or binoculars, unless they are fitted with filters specifically designed for viewing solar eclipse. -DO NOT use welder's mask with filter rating less than 14. Good luck to those who are at the location that falls in the path of Totality. Enjoy safely viewing this amazing and rare cosmic event. Want to know more? https://lnkd.in/gm5a4KyH
